| A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM
|
Greetings from the Central Florida Sports Commission! March has proven to be another productive month for sports event related opportunities in Osceola County.
In event news, The Sports Commission and Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau recently welcomed Florida Amateur Wrestling Association (FAWA) to OHP to host their Folkstyle State Championships. This was the first time FAWA staged an event at OHP's Exhibition Hall and Florida State Chairman Bill Grant said he "can't wait to come back". The event welcomed over 2,000 athletes and parents to Kissimmee for a jammed pack day of competitive wrestling. Click here for highlights from the event.
FAWA was so impressed with our county facility that they have decided to bring their Freestyle & Greco-Roman and Freestyle Dual Meet Club State Championships as well as their newly formed Body Bar Women's National Championships. These three competitions will be combined into a two day event in May that will pack OHP's Exhibition Hall with nearly 3,000-5,000 athletes and spectators.
Coming up in April, the Sports Commission will be working again with the Northeast Conference to co-host their 2010 NEC Men's Golf Championships. New this year, we will also be co-hosting their 2010 NEC Women's Golf Championships. Both events will take place at ChampionsGate Golf Course with the Women's tournament taking place first on April 22-25th followed by the Men's tournament April 29 - May 2nd.
Thank you for your continued support as we continue to market Osceola County as the "Ultimate Sports Destination." |

On the business development front, the Sports Commission is currently evaluating multiple events with the NJCAA (National Jr. Collegiate Athletic Association), USA Table Tennis, AAU Trampoline & Tumbling, and US Twirling. We are also still in talks with FLWand B.A.S.S.to host events with each in 2011. Each opportunity looks extremely promising, we are just waiting on final confirmation. |

The Sports Commission recently hosted a site visit with Kick International in hopes of hosting one of their Kick International events. If awarded this event would bring in approximately 500-1,000 athletes from across the United States for a weekend of Kick Martial Arts. We also welcomed Winter Guard, down from Ohio, for a site visit and tour of OHP's Silver Spurs Arena and Exhibition Hall, as well as Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. This potential event would bring 6,000-8,000 athletes and an estimated equal amount of spectators over the course of four days next April. The Sports Commission looks forward to updating you on both of these events soon. Stay tuned!
In addition, the Sports Commission recently looked into an opportunity to be the host for the 2011 Boys and Girls Score at the Shore Soccer Tournament, unfortunately due to facility restrictions and availability issues we had to pass on the event this year. The Sports Commission is always on the search for the next great sporting event and we will continue to bring events to Osceola County. |
