Greetings from your Central Florida Sports Commission! The month of February found the Sports Commission active on the business development front identifying and evaluating new event opportunities on behalf of Osceola County. At the same time, we were busy welcoming both past and new event partners to our community.
First, the Sports Commission is proud to have supported the Kissimmee Convention and Visitors Bureau and Osceola Heritage Parks hosting of the Florida High School Athletic Association's (FHSAA) Competitive Cheerleading Championships. This event was held February 5th & 6th at the Silver Spurs Arena, and attracted over 200 teams from across the State of Florida to compete in this competitive sport. This marks the first time this event was staged in Osceola County. We look forward to working with the Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau and Osceola Heritage Park in attracting additional FHSAA events to Osceola County.
Next, the Sports Commission and Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau welcomed back the Rebel Springs Games in their 11th year at Osceola County Softball Complex. This event continues to bring in more teams each year, with this year welcoming over 180 teams to Kissimmee for this multiple day event. This event will run through March 21st and bring in over $8 million in Economic Impact. Click the picture below to see some clips of one of the best events to take place in Osceola County.
Thank you for your continued support as we continue to market Osceola County as the "Ultimate Sports Destination." |

 IN THE PIPELINE |
| On the business development front, the Sports Commission is currently evaluating multiple gymnastics events for 2012, 2013 and/or 2014 on behalf of Osceola County. Those events include the USA Gymnastics Girls Junior Olympics, USA Gymnastics Easterns, USA Gymnastics Region VIII Level 9 and 10 Regionals, Region VIII Prep OPT Regionals and USA Gymnastics Florida State Championships. These potential events would be staged at either the Silver Spurs Arena or Kissimmee Civic Center. The USA Gymnastics Girls Junior Olympics was previously staged at the Silver Spurs Arena in 2004 and 2008.
In addition, the Sports Commission has had brief discussion with FLW on potentially hosting several national and regional fishing tournaments on Lake Toho for 2010 and 2011. Additional details on these opportunities will be provided in future impact reports. |

The Sports Commission recently met with the Kissimmee Parks and Recreation Department to work through the logistical details associated with potentially hosting a 2011 BASS Open Championship on Lake Toho at Kissimmee Lakefront Park. The Sports Commission submitted a proposal to BASS earlier this year to host a BASS Open Championships in the spring of 2011 in Osceola County. Specific event related details, including dates, are still being discussed with BASS. Stay tuned!
In addition, the Sports Commission recently looked into several opportunities with the NCAA to host multiple events within Osceola County, those being Men's & Women's Regional and National Golf Championships, Women's Volleyball National Championships and Men's & Women's Collegiate Fencing Championships. Unfortunately, the Sports Commission was unable to submit proposals due to the parameters (dates, financial) required to host each. Please know your Sports Commission will continue to identify future event opportunities with the NCAA for potential hosting in Osceola County. |
