The ICC's latest revision comes in to force on January 1, 2011 so there are only a few weeks left to prepare for its arrival.

- Insurance
- Transfer of risk
- Delivery
- Division of costs
- Customs formalities etc.
The revision includes a number of notable changes:
- Removal of the terms DDU, DES, DEQ and DAF
- Addition of the terms Delivered At Place (DAP) and Delivered At Terminal (DAT)
- Guidance for selecting the appropriate rule relative to the mode of transit
- Advice for using electronic procedures
- Discussion of security related clearances
- Inclusion of INCOTERMS® trade terms within domestic contracts
Users of the INCOTERMS® trade terms must act quickly to incorporate changes into their business practices.

IMPACT ANALYSIS Issues Impacting Global Business November-December 2010 Issue
Today's post-recessionary economic realities combined with dynamic global trends are impacting virtually every aspect of our lives. Unless organizations understand and adapt, succeeding in the years ahead will be extremely difficult (p1-4).
The public is routinely bombarded with misleading or simplistic trade coverage. As a result, America's attitude toward international business has soured (p5).
Manufacturing employment has fallen by one-third over the past decade. Some Members of Congress contend that foreign trade and offshoring are the causes. Surprising to many, technology-not trade-has driven down manufacturing employment (p6-8). Impact Analysis

LAST WEEK'S TRIVIA QUESTION Thanksgiving was adopted as an annual custom in 1817 by the State of New York. What day did this Thanksgiving celebration take place?
A) the third Thursday of the month B) the fourth Thursday of the month C) the date to be decided annually by the U.S. President D) each state celebrated on its own date
Answer: D - each state celebrated on its own date in 1817
Though the first Thanksgiving was celebrated at Plymouth Rock in 1621, the custom spread throughout the colonies, each region choosing its own date. In 1789 George Washington, the first U.S. President proclaimed November 26th as a day of Thanksgiving. However, the holiday continued to be celebrated on different days in different states.
On October 3, 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued a 'Thanksgiving Proclamation' and officially set aside the last Thursday of November as the national day for Thanksgiving. In 1939 the date was again changed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the third Thursday of the month in order to lengthen the Christmas shopping season and stimulate the economy.
In 1941, Congress returned Thanksgiving to the fourth Thursday of the month and declared that from then onwards Thanksgiving would be a legal holiday. |
