Wild turkeys were first domesticated by native Mexicans (Aztecs). Spaniards brought tame Mexican turkeys to Europe in 1519, and they reached England by 1524. Turkeys were taken to Europe by the Spanish who had found them as a favorite domesticated animal among the Aztecs and other Mesoamerican peoples The Pilgrims actually brought several turkeys to America on the voyage in 1620.
