Answer:
Indonesia has 167 of the 850 active volcanoes known in the world. Indonesia's high degree of volcanic activity is attributable to its position on a junction of three major plates; the Pacific, the Indian-Australian, and the Eurasian. The interaction of these plates creates one of the most complex geological settings in the world. Indonesia is home to the infamous volcano Krakatoa. In 1883 Krakatoa erupted in what is one of the most violent volcanic events in modern times. The eruption had a Volcanic Explosivity Index of 6; it was equivalent to 200 megatons of TNT. The catastrophic eruption resulted in the deaths of at least 36,000 people and thousands more injured.
