Olympic Rings
Olympic Opportunities

The Games offer numerous opportunities to gain exposure, both in relation to venues for the games and associated infrastructure.  For instance, in the Beijing Summer Games the investments in non-Olympic infrastructure are more than ten times larger than the investments directly associated with the Games.  It is important, however, to note that the Olympics themselves may not be a great profit maker.  Rather, the Olympics represent an incredible marketing opportunity for companies who want to showcase their brand, products, and expertise to an international consumer base.

TSA Launches Certified Cargo Screening Program

The Certified Cargo Screening Program ("CCSP") is a voluntary program that allows certified manufacturers, exporters and forwarders to screen air cargo before it is shipped. The Security Administration ("TSA") is now deploying the CCSP in nine pilot cities- Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle. By the end of 2008, TSA expects to set up ten to fifteen facilities and deploy TSA Field Teams in each of the selected cities.

The CCSP is intended to ease compliance with the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007, P.L. 110-53 (the "9/11 Commission Act"), which requires 100 percent screening of cargo carried on passenger aircraft by August 2010. Currently, air carriers perform most cargo screening. As a result of the increased screening required by the 9/11 Commission Act, much of the burden of cargo screening is likely to shift from air carriers to manufacturing and freight forwarding facilities.

Last Week's Trivia Question

What is the oldest country in the world?

A) Bulgaria
B) France
C) San Marino
D) Andorra

Answer:
(B) San Marino

Flag of San Marino

Landlocked San Marino is one of the world's smallest countries. Surrounded by Italy, it is an echo from an era when city-states proliferated across Europe. Tourism dominates the economy of the 61 square kilometre (23.6 square miles) republic, which plays host to more than three million visitors every year. Tradition has it that San Marino was founded in the fourth century AD by a devout Christian stonemason called Marinus, who took refuge there and set up a small community. Its rugged isolation helped the enclave to develop and keep its independence. San Marino is said to be the world's oldest surviving republic. An 1862 friendship and cooperation treaty with Italy, which has since been revised and expanded, reinforced San Marino's independence.
