Dear WGC Donors & Friends, |
DVC is requesting $280.60 - Can You Help?
The Domestic Violence Center of Howard County (DVC) is requesting immediate assistance for a client's relocation costs. This will allow her injuries to heal in a safe place.
This woman entered DVC emergency shelter program after an extended hospital stay caused by the attack of her abuser. As a result of the attack, she suffered a broken femur (thigh bone) and several smaller injuries. She has encountered several barriers to accessing services and becoming self-sufficient due to her physical limitations and her limited English proficiency. However, she is working with a bi-lingual counselor at the DVC and is currently engaged with a community medical agency that is helping her with physical therapy. She is trying to make plans for safe housing once she leaves the DVC shelter and would like to move out of state to live with her daughter. Not only will moving in with her daughter provide her with the support she needs as her injuries heal, but it will put a huge distance between her and her abuser. The Crime Victims Compensation Board has agreed to cover her medical costs, but unfortunately that leaves the cost of relocation to the client. Her relocation costs, which is the cost of a plane ticket, is $280.60.
If you can help this woman, please email Arlene Sheff at: arlenehs@gmail.com
Thank you for your consideration!
