Iron Girl Event - Food Tent Support!  WGC supports the Columbia Triathlon Association and manages its post-race food tent operations for four races during the year.  The food tent is supported by many volunteers at each event.  This food tent work requires volunteers to help set up, serve food to race participants, and then take down the food tent (three different time slots to accomplish each of these activities).  We need volunteers early morning, mid-morning or late morning (race is finished and clean up complete by approximately 12:30 pm or 1 pm).   Interested in volunteering? Email Bita Dayhoff at bdayhoff@cac-hc.org. We are now looking for volunteers to support various time slots for the Iron Girl event on Sunday, Augut 21st.

 Journey Group 2011

Latest Graduates of Journey Camp 2011

There were many smiles among the 26 attendees at this year'sweek long residential "Journey Camp" held at Washington College during the week of June 26th.  These recent graduates join the other 180 local girls who have attended the residential camp founded and supported by WGC and operated by Maryland Leadership Workshops

Journey was created six years ago to foster a sense of identity, self-awareness and empowerment in young women. Its focus is on what it means to be a woman in contemporary society.  By the end of each camp session, the girls select local women leaders to be awarded for their various accomplishments in Howard County. This year's awardees who will be recognized at a late August tea event include: Jean Toomer, Helen Mitchell, Valerie Lash, and Arlene Sheff.

Thanks for your Quick Response!

Our donors continue to respond quickly to women in need through the WGC Emergency Response Network  monthly emails! Many thanks to all of you who pooled your dollars to assist during July.  Family and Children's Services  requested $950 to help a young mother and her two girls leave an abusive relationship and move into their own apartment.  We were able to quickly raise $950 to help and we appreciate your generosity.  We will continue to provide you - our donors - with opportunities to make a difference in the lives of women and girls in our community.
