YWGC Bake Sale May 7, 2011

YWGC's Successful Bake Sale

at Central Library

Congratulations! to WGC's Young Women's Giving Circle whose recent Bake Sale Fundraisers raised $280! Other events and donations have since added up to almost $500!  The young women are raising funds to give a grant to their selected organization, Girls on the Run - Howard County.  Thank you for supporting this next generation of women philanthropists!

Come see WGC in action and Volunteer with us at the local 'post race' Food Tents!  One of the fundraising efforts in which WGC engages is to partner with Columbia Triathlon Association, a local, 501(c)(3) organization,to manage its post-race food tent operations for four races during the year. The food tent is supported by many volunteers at each event and WGC is rewarded with a significant donation at the end of season.  The next event, "Celebration", is on June 26th.  See below for information on volunteering for WGC at these food tents.

RECORD RESPONSE TIME RAISES $1,000

StopwatchTHANK YOU! to the generous donors who helped WGC hit a new record!  We raised $1,000 within 1 hour on June 7th! Grassroots asked for the WGC Response Network's help so that a hardworking, single mother could take advantage of her landlord's kind and generous offer and stay in her home with her two sons.  The initial email was sent out at 9:20 a.m. and by 10:00 a.m. the request was filled! This set an all time record for the WGC Response Network!  In May, the Response Network worked with Bridges to Housing Stability to help a client obtain funds to cover the filing fees for permanent residency.  She needed this residency status in order to keep her housing subsidy and house where she and her three year old daughter live.  Again this request was fulfilled on the same day - within 7 hours. We are always touched and amazed by your generosity and quick response - thank you!

Summer Races -- Food Tent Support!

WGC supports the Columbia Triathlon Association and manages its post-race food tent operations for four races during the year.  The food tent is supported by many volunteers at each event.  This food tent work requires volunteers to help set up, serve food to race participants, and then take down the food tent (three different time slots to accomplish each of these activities).

We need volunteers early morning, mid-morning or late morning (race is finished and clean up complete by approximately 12:30 pm or 1 pm).   Interested in volunteering? Email Bita Dayhoff at bdayhoff@cac-hc.org. We are now looking for volunteers to support various time slots for the following events.

  • Celebration (6/26/11)
  • Kidz Triathlon (7/24/11)
  • Iron Girl (8/21/11
