Hands in circleThank you to Ascend One for providing $1,500 of scholarship money towards the WGC Journey Camp scheduled for the week of June 26th.  The selected applicants of rising 8th and 9th grade girls will learn about leadership, esteem building, philanthropy, and make new friends! This week long residential camp is provided by WGC in partnership with Maryland Leadership Workshops.

Many thanks once again to our WGC donors answering a call for help! The WGC Response Network sent out an email earlier in April asking for help to raise $1,000 for a woman in need.  Within hours the request was filled through our wonderful donors.  We are always touched and amazed by your generosity and quick response - thank you!

"Through 'Mean Girls' in Elkridge, Students Learn How to Handle a Bully"

A social worker from the Howard County school system got moms and daughters to talk about the hidden "girl world."

"Isolated...That's how young people feel when they're in their world-'girl world'-where [girls] make up the rules and they decide based on whatever reason at the time who is cool and who isn't, who gets to be part of the group and who doesn't," said Deborah West, social worker from HCPSS.

(WGC co-sponsored this with The Horizon Councils at the Howard County Library.)

"Young Women's Giving Circle forms new generation of philanthropists in Howard County"

A new generation of female philanthropists is growing up in Howard County thanks to the Women's Giving Circle and 14 teenagers who feel as passionately about helping others as their mothers and grandmothers.

"It's important to teach it (philanthropy) to younger girls and keep spreading it," says Julie Factor, one of the youth leaders and WGC youth board member.

"The excitement of that day is really huge, and I just love the fact that we can get 75 people who didn't think they might be philanthropists on the road to philanthropy," says WGC Advisory Board Member Megan Bruno. "It makes me very happy."
