FIRN is seeking immediate help for a woman who is an immigrant from Thailand. Her husband was emotionally abusive and controlling. He discouraged her from improving her English, working, or doing anything to become more independent. When they divorced, she found that she could not do very much on her own. She receives some money from his pension but no child support or alimony. She fell from a ladder at work and injured her knee and shoulder, and she now cannot work as many hours as she used to. She currently has a turnoff notice from BGE  for $1417.83, for the months when she has been unable to pay. She will be attending a BGE workshop to learn how to lower her monthly bill and FIRN has tapped other sources to fund the remaining amount on her bill.

This is a one-time request from FIRN for $1000 to get this woman back on her feet.
