Be Informed! Where Does the Money Go?...
|
Howard Community College is a 2-year college and learning institution
with 22,000 students, many of whom are in non-degree programs that
prepare them for jobs. WGC's Continuing Grant to HCC provides financial
aid to women seeking job-related courses.
This year WGC provided $2500 to women who needed financial assistance for non-credit courses. One recipient of this grant has a son with a life long illness and a husband who recently suffered a near fatal heart attack which forced him to leave his job. With the help of the grant, she was able to take a course in Medical Billing and Coding and secure a job.
She shared her gratitude here: "Your grant has been invaluable." "Our finances are actually strained beyond the breaking point, so without your help, I would not have been able to retrain for my new career. It would be my pleasure to be successful enough in the not too distant future to be able to donate to your scholarship fund."

Be Engaged! Support the WGC through creative ways...
|
One creative WGC supporter developed a birthday campaign through facebook causes. As her birthday approached, Jean Moon asked for donations on her facebook page. When her friends saw on their calendar that it was her birthday, there was a link to click on to easily donate.
This creative donation idea took less than 5 minutes to set up and only a few seconds for each donation. You can easily set up a cause through facebook and invite all of your friends to join the cause and donate. The page is set up to share why you are donating, the cause (WGC) and why you care. Jean's goal was $300 and she surpassed this goal with a total of $1067 so far! Great job, Jean.

WGC Circle Team
|
The WGC Circle Team is well into their training for the 2010 season of races. These inspirational ladies are working hard to be ready for the Iron Girl in August which consists of a .62 mile swim, a 17.5 mile bike ride and a 3.4 mile run. In addition to the hard physical work they have been enduring, they just reached the $17,000 mark with fundraising! We are past half way to our $20,000 goal! This year's team is made up of over 50 women who will be competing in the 2010 Iron Girl or Columbia Triathlon. Many women will be competing for the very first time! These women are participating in weekly bike and run trainings with the guidance of some great leaders.
All Circle Team members will be raising funds for the WGC. We invite you to support this amazing group of women by making a donation to the team.
Please visit www.active.com/donate/circleteam2010 to make a donation.
