Be Involved! Spread the word about Journey 2010 ...
|
Applications are now available for Journey 2010. Journey is a week-long residential leadership development program for Howard County girls entering 8th and 9ths grade in the fall of 2010. Journey will run from Sunday, June 27 - Saturday, July 3 at Washington College in Chestertown, MD. The cost of the camp is $550. Financial assistance is available. The application deadline is March 30, 2010. Since its inception in 2006, a total of 150 Howard County girls have completed the program. The 2010 program will serve 40 girls, and every effort will be made to include girls from all four corners of the county.
Students participate in a confidence course, as well as workshops on self-awareness, building successful relationships, and decision making. Individualized goal-setting with one-on-one advising is also a component of the program. Survey results at the end of the program indicated that the girls gained self-confidence and interpersonal skills as a result of their participation.
WGC partners with Maryland Leadership Workshops to provide Journey. MLW has been providing leadership training programs for middle and high school students in the state of Maryland for over 50 years.

WGC's Response Network
|
On February 21st, the Baltimore Sun featured an article on the power of the WGC's Response Network. Check out "Women Helping Out Women."
Here is an example of the great work of the Response Network:
This month the WGC Response Network
appealed to our donors to assist a Korean client of the Domestic
Violence Center of Howard County who was fleeing a violent
relationship.
In order to
obtain a Korean speaking psychiatrist to help her heal and learn
lessons from her relationship, she needed $355 to supplement what
insurance could not cover.
Thanks to our
compassionate donors, the money was raised quickly and we were able to
help this single mother move forward with her life. |
