Be Informed!

Through the WGC's Response Network we are efficiently and effectively responding to the urgent needs of women in Howard County...

In early October, Grassroots contacted the WGC seeking $1,000 for a 31 year old widowed mother with a 10 year old son through out Response Network.  As a result of illness, this woman missed a lot of work and became behind on her rent.  Facing eviction, she turned to Grassroots who felt confident that with some temporary assistance this mother would be able to get back on her feet again.  In less than 5 hours of the Reponse Network's request for assistance WGC donors generously contributed the $1,000 needed!  That is the power of women pooling their resources!

Be Engaged!

Participate in our popular discussion series, Mean Girls...
Giving the tremendous success of prior workshops, the Horizon Council and the WGC are once again hosting a mother-daughter workshop, "Mean Girls: Queen Bees, Gamma Girls and Surviving the Female Hierarchy,"  The workshops will be held on Wednesday, November 4th at East Columbia Branch Library and Monday, November 16th at Miller Branch Library.

The workshops give mothers and daughters the opportunity to discuss the social and peer pressures on girls.  This is a great opportunity to open the lines of communication between mother and daughter.

Registration is required.  Register online or call 410-313-7700.

Journey Camp 2009
journey09aIn late August, Journey Camp participants hosted a Tea and Awards event at Howard Community College.  The Journey Girls awarded local women of achievement with handmade awards and thoughtful dedication speeches.  Thank you to Maryland Leadership Workshop, Journey Camp Director, Robin Black and the WGC Journey liaisons for making this another valuable summer for young Howard County girls!

All WGC donors are leveraging their dollars for change, and having a profound effect on the growth of women's giving in Howard County.  We have established a variety of giving levels with the overall goal of being as inclusive as possible.
