WGC's Response Network

The amazing generosity of WGC donors was witnessed this month through the WGC's Response Network, where two women and their families we helped during a time of need.
  • In record time, $300 was raised to assist a 60 year old woman in coming up with a security deposit.  This women is a psychologist seeking part-time employment through Senior Aid.  She relied on Social Security Disability income.  She left an abusive situation and found an apartment.  The only thing standing between her and the start of a new life was the cost of the security deposit. WGC donors took this stress away.
  • Later in the month, an overwhelmed 26 year old mother of 8 year-old twins with emotional disabilities was seeking the $400 needed to send her daughters to a day care/summer camp program.  Caring for her children and her 16 year-old brother and handling the costs of a car accident and rent, were more than this young women could handle.  Again, the compassion and generosity of WGC donors helped this woman take one worry off her plate.
Stories like these are not unique.  Right here in Howard County, women and girls are struggling with lifes basic needs.  Sometimes a leg up and a bit of support is all they need.  We hope you will continue to support your community through the WGC's Response Network and other WGC events and programs!  Click here to learn more about how to DONATE to the WGC.

"Standing on My Sisters' Shoulders"

sisterOn June 24, 2009 the WGC and the Howard County Library presented the film "Standing on My Sisters' Shoulders," to a packed room at the East Columbia Library.  One WGC Advisory Board member said "It was powerful to view this film with three generations of women in the room, and then share thoughts and experiences in a discussion afterwards."

All WGC donors are leveraging their dollars for change, and having a profound effect on the growth of women's giving in Howard County.  We have established a variety of giving levels with the overall goal of being as inclusive as possible.
