A monthly overview of WGC news and information
April 2009
Dear WGC Donors & Friends,

The Women's Giving Circle's is committed to engaging the next generation of philanthropists in Howard County.  By including girls and young women in the efforts of the Circle, we ensure a long-term investment in our community.

Liz Watson is just completing her term as this year's Youth on Board member with the WGC.  She has provided us with great insight into the issues and concerns of young women in Howard County and we thank her for her ideas, perspective and committment.  Recently, she provided her thoughts on our Annual Meeting:

"On Wednesday, March 18th, the Women's Giving Circle of Howard County held our annual meeting and social for 2009.  Keynote speaker, Rosalind Wiseman, author of Queen Bees and Wannabes spoke about the issues that many parents face during the pre-teen years. She spoke about the roll cell phones should play in a child's life, how to stop the "eye rolling" and what age a child should be allowed to have a Facebook. Overall, her discussion was very inspiring and well-received. All attendees, parents or not, left the meeting feeling empowered and proud to be associated with the Women's Giving Circle. As the youth member of the advisory board, it was very rewarding to see such an amazing turnout of supporters of the Women's Giving Circle.  I feel pride in knowing I am a part of something so influential."

Please visit the Calendar of Events section of the WGC website for information on all other scheduled events.

WGC Yard-Sale-A-Thon - May 9th!
During this challenging economic time, nonprofits are struggling to raise funds.  The WGC is facing this challenge by developing creative ways to encourage philanthrophy in our community.

On Saturday, May 9th, the WGC is hosting our first community-wide Yard-Sale-A-Thon! We invite women of our community to host yard sales and donate the proceeds to the WGC. This community-wide yard sale is a great opportunity to support women and girls in the county, engage your children and family in philanthropy in a fun way, get the word out about the WGC, and purge your house of unwanted items!
