WGC Response Network

In December, WGC members quickly came to the aid of a domestic violence victim.  Through the Response Network, the WGC was able to provide a woman and her two children the funds needed to flee an abusive situation. Thank you for your quick response and continued generosity!

Women's Voices of Inspiration

You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for [her] own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful.

Dear WGC Donors & Friends,
Journey Girls
Happy New Year!

It is the start of a new year of giving and we encourage you to invest in women and girls in Howard County through the WGC, especially during these challenging economic times.

The Women's Giving Circle has elected officers and Advisory Board members for 2009.  We are saying a bittersweet goodbye to our founders and are welcoming new leadership.

In December 2008, the WGC sponsored a workshop, "Get Control of Your Money," during which Betty Shepherd advised a woman's group at the North Laurel-Savage Multiservice Center in money management.

The end of 2008 was busy for the WGC and the excitement and opportunity continues in 2009.  Check out the WGC's Calendar to view a number of upcoming events, including the March 18 Annual Meeting.

Journey Camp 2009 is scheduled for June 21-27, 2009 at Washington Collage.  Applications are now being accepted.

Also, take a look at our sponsorship opportunities. Thank you to all our current and past sponsors - without you, we would not be able to offer our many programs and events each year ... your support, energy and enthusiasm is greatly appreciated!

"A Celebration of Women" Awards Banquet
Journey Continues ProgramOn December 13, 2008, 57 8th-12th graders met for brunch to reflect on their experiences at the Women's Giving Circle's Journey Camp, and to honor many successful women in Howard County who inspired them.

It was clear that each of these young girls took away an invaluable experience from this camp that will be important to them for the rest of their lives.

Through this remarkable camp each girl gained confidence, became aware of the role that women play in our society, learned about the differences that many women made in Howard County, and made lifelong friends along the way. One eleventh-grader exclaimed that she seems to see a friend from Journey almost everywhere she goes and that she loves having friends from so many different schools. As different women were honored throughout the morning, it was obvious that these girls respected the successful women whom they wish to emulate, and that these women respected these mature and ambitious young girls with bright futures ahead of them.
