Did You Know?
April 22 is Equal Pay Day - a very important day for American women who are in the workforce.  Never heard of it?  It marks the approximate time that it takes a woman to make up the salary difference from the year before between her and a typical male co-worker.

Dear WGC Donors & Friends,

Wow!  What a terrific Annual Meeting we held on April 16. The WGC's Annual Meeting is a time when circle donors and friends come together to celebrate a year of hard work and success and to share the message of philanthropy with the community - take a peek at a few "snapshots" of the gathering.

This year we heard a presentation on Title IX by Diane Schumacher, Athletic Director at Howard Community College and were reminded that women have not always enjoyed some of the opportunities we do today.  We also heard from three of last summer's 2007 Journey delegates who were wonderfully eloquent in describing how the Journey camp experience has continued to positively affect their lives.  We are excited that 50 more young women will attend the Journey camp this summer.

T
he program not only inspired a number of attendees to become first-time donors to the WGC, but a women's basketball scholarship was funded at HCC by a donor in attendance!

We thanked outgoing Chair Dorothy Harris and WGC Advisory Board members who gave of their time and talent for years to the circle.  And, we welcomed new officers: Buffy Beaudoin-Schwartz, Chair; Mary Ann Scully, Vice Chair; and Cynthia Taliano, Treasurer, and nine new Advisory Board members who will help guide the circle as we move into our 7th year of leveraging our dollars and helping women and girls in the community.

It is important to us to hear from you - our donors - about the Annual Meeting.  Please take a moment to participate in a 3 minute online survey about this year's event.  We value your feedback!

recent WGC programs.

Many thanks to this year's Annual Meeting sponsors: GGP, The Business Monthly, Howard Bank and Bellisimo Flowers.

And, finally, we distributed the 2007 WGC Annual Report - please take a moment to review the past year's accomplishments, which wouldn't have been possible without your investment of time, talent and financial resources - thank you!
WGC in the News: "Girls Taught 'Money Matters' By Professional Woman"
The free, seven-week class was co-sponsored by the Women's Giving Circle of Howard County, a women's philanthropy, and the Columbia Association, with the goal of assisting middle-school aged girls with money management - The Business Monthly, March 2008

The WGC's Response Network
Thanks to all of you who pooled your dollars to assist a woman in need last month!  We appreciate your generosity and will continue to provide you - our donors - opportunities to make a difference in the lives of women and girls in our community.
