Turkey Tales
Thanksgiving is behind us now, but I just had to share some of these comical items I came across.
The first is from the Thanksgiving Day Philly Inquirer article by Dianna Marder.
Butterball (the turkey company) offers a "Turkey Talkline" during the holiday season. These are just a few of the 100,000 calls they get...you couldn't make this stuff up.
One woman didn't have a roasting bag so she used a dry cleaning bag and was calling because the plastic was stuck to the bird.
Another wanted the inside of the bird squeaky clean for stuffing so she used a Brillo pad on it...was that okay?
My favorite is the traveling meat-eater visiting a vegetarian family member for the holidays. She took a frozen bird in her carry-on, got delayed overnight, and even though she availed herself of the hotel ice machine contents, the bird completely defrosted way before reaching her destination. She called to see if it was ok to cook. Yikes!
On a more serious note, President Obama pardoned the Official Thanksgiving Turkey, Liberty, and his understudy (any chance Liberty wouldn't show up?) Peace. Later that same day, the First Family delivered 2 ready-for-stuffing turkeys to the area Food Bank. Hope Liberty and Peace are keeping a low profile this season, we still have Christmas dinner coming up!

One Warm Coat
Raid your coat closet and bring in any gently used coat (hats, mittens, scarves also). Last year we donated 38 coats to 2 groups in the area.
This year we're trying for 60! Help us make our goal. Don't have a spare coat? Consider new sweat pants or sweatshirts and socks. Again, this year the need is great ...help us make a difference!

Tis' the Season for an Attitude of Gratitude
If you are thankful for what you have and are looking for some local worthy causes to gift to this season, I just happen to have a few to recommend :)
Our One Warm Coat drive for starters. Bring in whatever you can, children or adult coats) and you'll be helping someone have a much better Winter. I usually deliver the coats to the local organizations we've chosen and the response makes it all worthwhile.
It's hard to imagine, but there are people in this area that don't have enough food. A couple groups that do an outstanding job all year are www.philabundance.org & www.sundaybreakfast.org If you know of any other local organizations that could use a hand, let us know through our email or www.facebook.com/MidatlanticScubaCenter.
