Lose the Weight Travel Tips to stay under the Limit |
 |
Luggage Allowances
Most carriers and flights allow you to have 2 checked
bags, 1 carry-on, and 1 personal item such as a brief
case, laptop bag, purse, camera bag or back-pack.
The carry-on must fit in the over-head compartment
and the personal bag must fit under the seat in front
of you. Generally, Domestic flights and International
flights with a domestic connection have a 50lb per
checked bag weight limit. Many international flights
have a 70lb per checked bag weight limit. The best
way to determine the specific restrictions for your
flight is to check with your airline long before your
travel date.
Pack your dive gear in your carry-on
Most flights do not have a weight restriction
on
carry-on luggage. This makes it advantageous to
pack your important (heavy) dive equipment in your
carry-on. This
works well too in case your checked luggage is
delayed, you can still dive. Believe it or not, it is
possible to fit a regulator (without a reg bag), an XL
BCD, a wetsuit, a mask/snorkel, and wetsuit boots in
your carry-on. Don't believe it. Let us show you how.
Switch to rechargeable AA and AAA
batteries
Both Energizer and Duracell make a 30-Minute
charger for AA and AAA batteries. Take 8 batteries
and the charger. These batteries work for many
cameras and dive lights.
Determine how many clothing items you will really
need and stick to it
A few days prior to packing determine how many
shirts, shorts, pants, etc you will need for your trip.
Check if your hotel has a dress code for dining. Try
to find interchangeable clothing items that you can
mix and match on different days. Pack based on your
list. Resist the temptation to add to it while your
packing; You're
likely to end up with clothes you will never wear. If
you
are going on a live-aboard dive boat you will need
even fewer clothes.
Weigh your bags before you leave home
You don't want to get to the counter only to find out
that you are a few pounds over. If you can't shift
items to other bags, you will either need to leave
items behind or pay the overage charges which can
range from $25-100

Are you ages 14-20? Join Our Venturing Crew |
 |
We've started a Venturing Crew. "A What?" You
might say.
Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy
Scouts of America for young men and women who
are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade)
through 20 years of age. Don't worry there aren't
any silly uniforms with funny socks!
Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences
to help young people mature and to prepare them to
become responsible and caring adults.
Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic
relationship between youth, adult leaders, and
organizations in their communities. Local community
organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching
their people and program resources to the interests
of young people in the community. The result is a
program of exciting and meaningful activities that
helps youth pursue their special interests, grow,
develop leadership skills, and become good citizens.
How great would this look on a college application?
Our Venturing Crew is Scuba and
Marine/Environmental
Science based. You do not need to be a
certified diver to participate. You can join as a
certified diver, join to become a certified diver, or
join because you are interested in
marine/environmental science. You could even earn a
scholarship toward diving classes including
professional levels! Click here for more
information!
Membership in the MASC Venturing Crew is $50.

expensive surprises by weighing your luggage before
you get to the airport. This lightweight scale weighs
luggage up to 75 lb (ideal for determining if your bag
exceeds the international 70 lb weight limit!). It even
has a built-in tape measure to ensure bags don?t
exceed carry-on or check-in dimension restrictions,
