Greetings!
No, it's not a bad summer sequel. After I sent the
May newsletter, a ton of news worthy topics came
to my attention. Since some of them are time
sensitive...waiting until June was not really an
option.

Versa Pro revision 2A Voluntary Recall |
 |
Oceanic has asked for our assistance with
notifying
our customers of a voluntary recall of their Versa Pro
computer. This recall only affects Version 2A and
only when that computer is used in "Gauge Mode"as
opposed to "Air Mode" or "Nitrox Mode"
If this affects you and your computer. Please
discontinue the use of "User Selected Digital Gauge
Mode" and return the computer for an upgrade.
The following explanation of the problem has been
reprinted from an Oceanic Dealer E-
mail: >"Elapsed Dive Time" during normal
operation, as a decompression dive computer does
not display the additional time and is not of concern,
only during operation when set for Digital Gauge
Mode. None of the other revisions of the Versa Pro
nor any other Oceanic dive computer is affected,
only the Versa Pro 2A and only when operating in
Digital Gauge Mode.
If you have any questions, please let us know.

Nitrox certification no longer requires dives! |
 |
It's About Time!
If you were certified prior to 1996 or so, you may
have never heard of Nitrox. Nitrox diving has
definitely come of
age. Divers all over the world are breathing Nitrox as
a way of safely extending their bottom
time.
What is Nitrox anyway?
Nitrox is air that has been infused with oxygen or has
had nitrogen taken out of it.
What does that mean to me?
When you breathe Nitrox as opposed to air, you can
safely extend your dive time with regard to your no-
decompression limit. That means...more photos, more
fish, more awesome diving moments!
Why do I need special training?
Higher levels of oxygen need to be handled with
special care. We will train you
how to work with Nitrox and safely extend your
bottom time.
Does it make a tank last longer?
Nitrox does not put more air in your tank or make the
air in your tank last longer. It simply replaces some of
nitrogen with oxygen so that your body accumulates
less nitrogen, and therefore lets you stay down
longer.
When are the classes?
May 11, June 9, July 14, August 8

Don't miss the Adventure Aquarium (NJ) Featured on ABC'S "David Blaine: Drowned Alive" May 8th |
 |
|
MONDAY, MAY 8 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on the
ABC
Television Network.
Adventure Aquarium welcomed illusionist David Blaine
with open fins when he dove into the aquarium's
550,000-gallon Shark Realm exhibit to film part of his
training and preparation for his upcoming
special, "DAVID BLAINE: DROWNED ALIVE". David
Blaine and his production staff arrived at the top of
the Aquarium's Shark Realm and consulted with
Aquarium husbandry staff on procedures and animal
care before free diving into the man-made Shark
Realm, home to over 25 sharks including Sandbar,
Sand Tiger and Nurse sharks. The crew filmed for
four hours and Aquarium guests and staff watched
Blaine dive again and again, surrounded by sharks.
Be sure to watch as he will, once again, put his life
on the line in a death-defying attempt to hold his
breath underwater longer than any human being,
currently a stunning eight minutes, 58
seconds! Viewers will hold their collective breath
during the heart-stopping finale of the broadcast
when Blaine will put himself to the ultimate test -
live - on the new, two-hour ABC primetime
special, "David Blaine: Drowned Alive."
