Adventure Aquarium Set to Open in May! |
 |
I'm sure that most of you have been to the New
Jersey State Aquarium (Camden Aquarium) in the
past. It is also likely that your inital response was "
Yuck all of the fish are brown." The aquarium went
through a seris of improvments that made it quite a
bit more attractive (they even put colorful tropical
fish
in) but it never really overcame it's "brown fish"
days. About a year and a half ago, the aquarium and
it's brown fish were purchased by a Chicago company
and a major expansion and remodeling project was
put
into action.
In May of this year the aquarium is set to reopen as
the Adventure Aquarium. The aquarium will
be nearly
double it's original size and will offer awesome new
exhibits. Among the new exhibits and attractions are
a 4-D theater, Shark Realm, a West African River,
and a Jules Verne Gallery.
The new 4-D Theater is just what its name
implies: a journey into a new, fourth dimension of
virtual experience. The 3-D, on-screen action is
choreographed with state-of-the-art seating making
you part of the action with unexpected physical
effects to surprise and delight visitors of all ages.
The premiere showing when Adventure Aquarium
opens in May 2005 will be 'Deep Sea, the Ride' --
produced by the SimEx-Iwerks group, internationally
recognized as a leader in immersive attraction
experiences.
Shark Realm
There's nowhere and everywhere to turn as you
watch sharks, stingrays and sawfish in a 550,000
gallon shark tank. Dramatic floor-to-ceiling views
stretch two stories high. A 40-foot long walk-through
tunnel is the ultimate in an enveloping immersive
experience. The truly adventurous can "Swim with
the Sharks" in a controlled setting. Snorkel along the
tank's perimeter under the guidance and supervision
of experts.
West African River Experience
Discover the underwater lives of hippopotamuses in
this indoor exhibit as they cohabitate with free-flying
birds, crocodiles, porcupines and more than 1,000
fish. This is a unique opportunity to observe species
as they co-exist in nature but have never before
been featured together in an aquarium.

Advanced Open Water Diver Course |
 |
Take your adventure to new depths!
Imagine a diving buffet.
Don't get the melted butter ready just yet.
I'm refering to The Advanced Open Water Diver
Course.
Advanced Open Water gives you the opportunity to
sample different types of diving activities like
underwater photography, wreck diving, boat diving,
and a lot more. Even if you have done these types of
dives before, did you get everything you could from
them? If you have already been below 60ft, did you
crack a raw egg and have it stay together like a hard
boiled egg.
Why Advanced Open Water Diver?
After your five dives, you'll be more experienced, feel
more comfortable in the water and simply enjoy diving
more because you better understand the underwater
environment
What do I need to start?
Actually-You can even start before you complete
your Open Water Training Dives. Generally, you need
to be an Open Water Diver and at least 10 years old!
What will I do?
This certification offers five Adventure Dives,
including the Deep Adventure Dive, the Underwater
Navigation Adventure Dive and any three of the
following:
Boat Diver -

Why Do I Need Trip Insurance? |
 |
We hear this frequently. The answer
is
entirely
personal and different for everyone.
You do not need insurance if:
- You never get sick
- Your companion, spouse, children, mother or
father never get sick, have accidents, or wind up in a
hospital for any reason
- You cannot get laid off, fired, or lose your job for
any reason
- Your house could never get flooded, have a fire or
get blown apart in a storm
- You never travel anyplace that could have
hurricanes, tropical storms, mudslides, floods or any
other kind of natural disaster
- Your final destination resort, live-aboard, etc.
could never close or cease operations for any reason;
financial or otherwise
- Your flight could never be delayed because of
weather; you could never miss a connection and be
forced to overnight and pay for taxis, food and a
hotel room. (If its weather related all bets are
off, the airlines are not obligated to do anything for
you except possibly help you reschedule on a later
flight.)
Traveling without insurance is a gamble. If you are
willing to take the risk you can save yourself a small
chunk of change. If you travel frequently, it can
really add up.
It's a good move for you as long as you understand
you are taking the gamble-not the resort,
airline, or
live-aboard dive boat. If you cancel once final
payment is made, there isn't much we can do. Even
with the resorts and dive operators we work with
frequently; it comes down to dollars and cents. If
you cancel and they can't fill the spot they are out
the money, and it wasn't their fault. They will offer
sympathy but little else.
So there you have it. Just like life insurance, medical
insurance, dive insurance, car insurance, etc, you
hope
you never need it.
Generally, our staff travels with Access America
Travel with Ease-Comprehensive. It is both
budget and user-friendly.

White Shark Released |
 |
The Great White Shark we reported about in our last
newsletter was released from the Monterey Bay
Aquarium on March 31st. At the time of her release
she was fitted with a transmitter to help researchers
track her movements and continue to study her
behavior.
Aquarium staff decided to release the white shark
after she began to show signs that she was hunting
the other sharks in the exhibit. She was also growing
quite rapidly. In her six months in captivity, she
gained 100 pounds and grew nearly a foot and a half
in length.
