On May 23, 2012, Tricia Christie, M.L.S., C.L.S became the first woman to be commissioned as a Land Surveyor in Manitoba. Her 11 year journey began at the University of Calgary and included an internship with Petro-Canada and an articling position with Barnes and Duncan. We would like to congratulate her on her efforts and hard work!
Manitoba is one of the last Canadian provinces to commission a female Land Surveyor. The smaller number of commissioned land surveyors in Manitoba is suspected by some to be a factor in why it took so long for this to happen. Both Tricia and the AMLS hope to see more women joining the field in the future.
