NEW Webinars Scheduled: Spring into Windows 7
Join us for three can't-miss webinars that explore the challenges and logistics of migrating to Windows 7.
After months of discussion and budgetary planning, you've been given the green light to go ahead with your Windows 7 initiative. Phew! But now what? There's so much to do that it can seem like an impossible task just deciding where to begin. Join three Eden experts as we walk you through the basics of a Windows 7 Readiness Assessment. We will conduct the webinar as a condensed version of a consulting engagement giving you a sense of the questions you should be asking yourself as you plan your migration. Attend this webinar on Wednesday, March 21 at 12:00pm (EST) and you'll leave with a strategic roadmap helping you decide where to begin, and how to keep moving forward without feeling overwhelmed.

April 10, 2012: What Will the End of XP Support REALLY Mean to You?
Everyone has heard it, XP Support will end in April 2014 but what does that really mean to your organization, your technical environment and your Windows 7 project? While April 2014 may not conjure up the same type of fear that a Dec. 21 doomsday prediction does, the reality is that your organization can't afford to go without Microsoft support. Without ongoing security updates and patches, outdated environments will be vulnerable to malicious malware and viruses, failed compliance audits, and an abundance of other serious risks. While the focus has been on XP support, there are other critical apps ending their support cycle as well. Join us on Tuesday, April 10th at 12:00pm (EST) to gain a complete understanding of what exactly will happen to outdated environments in April, 2014 and ways we can prepare.
May 15, 2012: The Windows 7 Snowball Effect - Managing Multiple IT Initiatives while Migrating to Windows 7
While every Windows 7 migration project is different, the one thing they all have in common is that they are NOT the only IT initiative going on in most organizations. We have nicknamed this the snowball effect because the decision to go to Windows 7 triggers a host of other projects that are either essential to the success of Windows 7 or because of it. As one of our customers put it, "If we were just going to Windows 7 this would not be as overwhelming as it is!" Attend this brief webinar on Tuesday, May 15th at 12:00pm (EST) to gain a tactical understanding of the ways in which you can bundle multiple IT projects in order to save time, money and resources.

Got the Windows 7 Green light - Now what?
We just spoke to a customer this week who got the green light to move forward with their Windows 7 initiative. This came after several months of back and forth meetings, planning sessions and budgetary discussions. The proposal worked through the decision making channels and came back with a stamp of approval. Our customer - relieved it was approved - took a deep breath and said, "Now what?"
After all the planning discussions that go in to building your budget and making the case for Windows 7, the news that it is happening can feel overwhelming - especially considering the months it often takes to justify the expense and commitment.
The best advice we can give you is to take a step back and consider conducting a Readiness Assessment. Whether it is with Eden Technologies or on your own - a readiness assessment will give you a good sense of where your strengths are and what areas you may need some assistance. If you have money in the budget for additional help, consider spending a little for an onsite Assessment with Eden experts. You will benefit from getting the guidance and advice from people who have been through it. Here are there additional tips for performing your due diligence:
- Plan Twice - Execute Once - We cannot stress this enough. We know you're itching to get started and want to see that image drop as soon as possible but take the time to plan this through - seriously - the time you spend now can save you headaches, time and money down the road.
- Get Out of Your Bubble - Migrating to Windows 7 means different things to different IT groups. Application Packagers want to focus on building the packages while desktop engineers worry about the image, and support wants to have time to test the entire desktop. Take the time to get out of your bubble and learn about all the phases of the migration - the MORE you know the better equipped you will be to make good choices.
- Reach Out to Your Network - Do not reinvent the wheel. We repeat, do not reinvent the wheel. Reach out to your network of colleagues, use professional groups, discussion boards, anything you can get your hands on to learn as much as you can about migrating to Windows 7. The best way to learn is from other people's mistakes!

Bang for Your Buck - Bundle Up!
Winter may be all but over - and if you live in the Tri-State Area, you're not sure it ever started - but there's still reason to bundle up. If you're thinking about migrating to Windows 7, but are burdened with a variety of other projects that may be of higher priority, take this opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Bundle a few projects into one. Here are a few examples:
Asset Management: If Asset Management is a project that has been on your plate for a while, take advantage of the hardware and software inventories you have to do to complete your Windows 7 migration. While you may not have the bandwidth to plan an entire Asset Management process right away , you will at least have a starting point.
Review Policies: If you are like most organizations most of your technology policies were written or updated when you went to XP. Now is the perfect time to update them. Not sure what best practices are? Seek advice of colleagues in your industry or invest in an Entitlement Review. Again, making some strategic adjustments while everyone is in a "change mode" will get you ahead of the game.
Mobile Management: Everyone is talking about it and most organizations are doing pieces of it but when it comes down to it, the foundation of a mobile management strategy starts with having a handle on Assets, Data and Security. Take advantage of your Windows 7 planning to position your environment for the future.
