Summer Is Busy Time for Alimony Reform

Bi-Weekly Newsletter
Greetings!

This summer is heating up, in more ways than one. Thanks to your contributions, we have been able get the attention of several more legislators. Legislators are understanding the "real reason" behind resistance to alimony reform. This resistance is not in the best interest of Florida's citizens.  Maintaining an adversarial relationship between spouses for a lifetime does not help Florida's families or our society.  More legislators are understanding this truth.

Our upcoming meeting in Orlando on July 28th is sure to pump up the energy for a very effective 2013 Legislative Session. Rep. Ritch Workman, the main force behind the passage of the House Version of last year's alimony reform bill, will be speaking, helping you understand the legislative process and telling you what YOU can do to help insure passage of alimony reform.

Please check the FAR EVENTS Tab on the FAR Website for details about upcoming meetings.  We will be meeting in Orlando, Tampa, Miami, and Westin spreading the message and getting volunteers to help in our movement. Our Naples meeting went very well. Several women gave very compelling stories that can be seen on theFAR Website as well.

Summer is the time for talking with your legislators without the time crunch they are under when in Tallahassee. Get to know the legislative assistants as well.  They can be Very Helpful!

Thank you all for your contributions! We are able to continue to keep the momentum going with legislative assistance, press releases, further website development and internet presence, and beginning to build PAC money. We hope to have the  FAR PAC in place by our Orlando meeting but will be able to accept contributions for the Legislative Elective Campaigns. These funds will be very helpful in supporting the right legislators.

Just this weekend we received the support of yet another state senator who knows how wrong current alimony law is. Our voices are being heard. We are looking for reasonable laws that treat both spouses fairly. What motive could there be to be against laws like that?

Before You Vote:  Please go to the FAR Website or look below to see if your State Representative voted For or Against last years HB 549.  Many people are using mail-in ballots for early voting.  Please do your due diligence to see how your State Representative Voted before you give them YOUR Valuable Vote!

Sun Sentinel Article Needs Your Comments!!!

Debbie Israel, Committee Leader of the Florida Second Wives Club, was recently interviewed by the Sun Sentinel. The article discusses how current Florida alimony law is anti-marriage, and Debbie uses herself as an example.

There are many situations throughout Florida where marriage would make the rest of an alimony payer's wife's life miserable. Click Here  to read the article, then (you know the procedure) comment and share this article with your friends. Share it on Facebook or other social media. Don't stop spreading the word.  People are beginning to listen.

The article is posted again in the Orlando Sentinel.  Please click here, and repeat the process.  Read, comment, and forward to your friends and family.  Spread the word and comment, comment, comment!

FAR to have Exhibit Booth at  Florida Obstetric & Gynecologic Society Conference
FAR has learned that OB/GYN doctors have approximately an 85% divorce rate.  This will be a wonderful opportunity for speaking with many doctors who are dealing with Florida's unfair alimony laws.  The conference is Aug 3-5 and will be in Orlando.  We will have time to speak with many doctors, one on one, and listen to their stories.  Then we will have the opportunity fto ask for their involvement.  "If we let up, we lose" is a message all alimony payers and their families should repeat to themselves daily.  We ARE the People!
Support the Legislators that Support FAR
Florida Capital Building
If we are to be effective in Tallahassee, we have to build an organization that will be listened to.  The Florida Bar knows about FAR and is concerned. The Truth about current alimony law will certainly cause change in these laws.

Please support those legislators that support True Alimony Reform.  This is a good question to ask those legislators running for re-election.  Know YOUR Senator and Representative. If we want change, we have to get political. It's a bi-partisan issue, but we need people in office who support True Alimony Reform.
