What's New and Exciting With FAR?

Greetings! ,

The Alimony Reform movement in Florida continues to gain momentum.  Your recent contributions have allowed us to erect billboards, and ultimately get more publicity from the media towards alimony reform.  Check out the WCTV report on our website.  This effort has led to a spike in viewership of our FAR website as well as additional membership.  Please keep telling your story and direct more people to the FAR website for more information.

We will soon begin working with a "legislative technician" (yes, there is such a specialty) who will assist us in creating a new legislative draft that we can bring to both our Legislative and Senate Sponsors.   Of course, our core group will review this draft and make the necessary changes to assure that we have proposed legislation that effectively deals with the issues at hand.  As we all know, we probably won't get everything we want or expect, but this is a process and we will make our best case in the hope that our legislators listen to us.

To that end, while we know that Ritch Workman will be our Legislative Sponsor, we have not yet chosen our Senate Sponsor.  No worries though, as we have enough time before the next legislative session to decide as to who will be the best fit; and please remember, we also intend to have at least two other co-Senate Sponsors as well.  Currently, we are putting together information in a binder for a State Senator who wants a complete review of the alimony issue before he commits himself to sponsorship.  That's perfectly acceptable, as we have plenty of information at our disposal.

I will be heading up this Friday to New Jersey to speak at the New Jersey Alimony Reform (NJAR) conference being held at Rutgers University.  Check out their press release.  Our sister state is experiencing similar challenges to their reform movement, and is watching us very closely.  With your continued help and guidance, I'm confident that Florida will be able to blaze the trail and create a template for the changes necessary toward alimony reform.

Representatives of alimony reform movements from other states, besides New Jersey, have also contacted me asking for information.   We will be happy to assist them in their efforts by helping them create their own, and link on to our, alimony reform website.  If you know of anyone in another state who is experiencing similar challenges as us, please write us at  info@floridaalimonyreform.com and we will reach out to them to help.   The more states that ask their legislators for reform, the more likely reform will occur.

Then, of course, there are those individuals who believe that alimony reform may not be necessary and who get media coverage to that end.  Please read and comment on the latest article by history professor, Jonathon Zimmerman.   Your comments to articles like this are important because it helps keep the topic of Alimony Reform at the forefront of conversation in the media.

Allow me to end this email with a couple of reminders. Saturday, July 28th at the WMFE studios in Orlando from 11-2 we will have a social gathering for our members.  Ritch Workman will be in attendance to answer any questions you may have regarding upcoming legislation; And the very next week, on Saturday, August 4th, Ritch will be hosting his 5k run Workman Warrior event for the Sentinels of Freedom Space Coast in Wickham Park, Melbourne Florida.  I'm not a runner, but I'll be doing my best to help Ritch with his efforts.  Please attend one, or both events if you are able.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Remember, if we let up, we lose.
