Greetings! ,
I'd like to thank everyone for their nice comments regarding my first introductory video for FAR. Putting a face to a name is important and I wanted to make certain that everyone knows why I am passionate about our cause. I plan on doing at least one video every month (hopefully getting better at it as time goes on), with possible videos in between when necessary. My goal is to reach out to as many people as possible who have been adversely affected by Florida divorce laws.
That said, it has been a very exciting week for FAR. I, along with other key members of our organization, have met with numerous legislators who are very favorable to our cause. After speaking with these Representatives and Senators, I am confident that we will obtain both sponsors and prime co-sponsors for our upcoming legislative session. I don't want to mention any specific names because the upcoming elections in November may change the playing field somewhat, but rest assured that our collective voices have been heard and we will now have more opportunity for success than we had last session.
Chuck Reinersten and I will be meeting soon with members of FAR in various areas of the state to discuss raising money for certain key political campaigns. While our legislators realize that current divorce law requires change, they also have many other potential bills on their plates. We are doing everything we can to educate our legislators, but please remember that there were over 3000 bills presented to the legislators last session, but only about 300 of those implemented changes to current law. If we want our bill to be among the 10% to be recognized and approved into law, we must effectively donate money to their campaigns. This is critical and must be in addition to what we are currently doing for advertising, media, as well as meeting our own internal expenses.
We will be exploring different options to raise more money, including changing around our corporate structure, focusing more on social media campaigns, changing our website, and implementing a PAC (political action committee) volunteer program. It would be great if each member of FAR contributed to FAR's PAC between $1.00-$5.00 per month. This money would be used to specifically help fund key political campaigns. Think of this as an investment in your future. Together we can, and will, change Florida alimony laws. It will take time, money, and possibly some sweat equity from each and every one of us, but we must continue to grow our organization in order to become a real force in the landscape of Florida politics.
After my last round of legislative meetings, I am pumped up more than ever. The powers that be are listening to us. They know that the Family Section of the Florida Bar did not negotiate in good faith and with good intentions. They understand what is happening to the citizens of Florida who simply want to divorce from their spouse. From the work that we have already done, they now know that litigating family law attorneys are selfishly protecting their own wealth at the expense of divorcing couples, and families; and they want to help us......so let's help them, please, by donating to their campaigns. I will be certain to inform you when we have our PAC set up..but for now...don't throw away your loose change. ;)
Alan
Thank you.
