| Greetings!
Much continues to happen as we keep the Florida Alimony Reform Movement going!
Representative Workman is committed to Meaningful Alimony Reform. We are fortunate to have such a leader take a personal interest in updating Florida's archaic alimony laws. Read the article on "Workman's Warriors" then show your appreciation.
If we get enough members to contribute to his event and put on the sponsorship form that this should be considered a donation from FAR, maybe we can donate enough to be his major event Sponsor and get the FAR logo on the shirts, acknowledgement on the website, and all event invitations? The publicity would be good.
On your donation say you are a member of FAR and thank Rep. Workman for his efforts.
Anyone who wants to sign up for the Workman Warrior event please
do so. Our own, Alan Frisher, will be participating in the event to show his support for what Ritch Workman is doing for our cause.
Alan Frisher, FAR's co-director, submitted an Op-Ed article to The Ledger that was published. "Reform Alimony; End Acrimony" Please "Like and Recommend" this article, comment on it, and also thank The Ledger for printing it.
There were many responses to David Manz's article. Read through the comments at FloridaVoice and see how Florida's current alimony laws are Anti-Marriage and Anti-Family. Copy and print these comments to bring with you when you visit your legislators. These are comments from real people, not from the "Anti" Family Bar. You may continue to comment.
FloridaVoice Poll: Florida Voice even put a poll on their Front Page last week entitled "Should Florida change it's divorce law to end permanent alimony? The final vote was:
Yes, society has changed and this antiquated law keeps people from moving on. 99% (396 votes)
No, spouses who stayed home to raise a family will be hurt.
1% (4 votes)
Total votes: 400
Your legislators should be interested in these polls. A poll conducted earlier this year in the Orlando Sentinel showed similar results. Floridians want alimony reform!

Integrity Florida, a Welcome New Crusader for Ethics Reform
Senator Paula Dockery is on the side of ethics reform in Tallahassee. Her recent article in Florida Voices says it very clearly.
"For five years, I'd tried to pass a bill that would ban lawmakers from sponsoring, voting or lobbying for items that would financially benefit themselves or a family member. But despite a grand jury's call for ethics reform and public perception of elected officials at an all-time low, it was clear the Senate's leadership had no desire to address conflicts of interest."
Read the entire article, then Recommend on Facebook or other Social Media and write a Comment.
Florida is in need of Wisdom in ending a marriage, rather than the "Gamesmanship of Litigation" that destroys families, discourages marriage, and weakens the very fabric of our society. It is good to have Integrity Florida serve as a watchdog for any self-serving divorce attorney politicians. |

FAR Committees
Your Involvement Is Needed.
Legislative Task Force - Develop contacts and relationships with state legislators, and educate them about alimony reform.
Education - Research material related to divorce, alimony, and solutions that work.
Second Wives Club - Demonstrate how these laws affect women. Get media coverage.
Advertising - From Newspapers to Billboards, we need to expose the consequences of FL Alimony Laws.
Events - Regional State Membership Drives and 2 State Meetings.
Fundraising - IMPORTANT. If you have a background in Fundraising, please help us. It takes money to change a law.
Attorneys, please get with the other attorneys in FAR. You can help change these laws. We will keep your contributions, both legislative and financial, anonymous.
The Legislative Committees are coming along nicely. 6 of the 9 Sections we divided the state into have Chapter Leaders. 3 are still needed.
Second Wives Club is also going well. Read Debbie's article below. We need more women involved with FAR.
The Education Committee is gathering data showing the effects of lifetime alimony on the family and on society.
All the committees still need volunteers. This is a Big Mission in a Big State. From the Panhandle to the Gold Coast, we need volunteers to help change these laws.
Email FAR and we will put you in touch with the right people. Just Do It!
Thanks!

The Second Wives Club (SWC)
The Dangers of Permanent Alimony to the Recipient - "Entitlement Syndrome"
Gay ex-spouse can not remarry in Florida.
Re-marriage cannot end alimony for payer, only death of ex-spouse.
Until our blog on the FAR web site is ready, you can join the discussion of the Second Wives Club on Google Plus by clicking on this link.
The two issues that I would like to discuss this week are as follows: 1) The dangers of permanent alimony to the recipient and 2) What happens to the permanent alimony payer when the only legal way to terminate alimony is the death or remarriage of the former spouse but the former spouse has declared that he or she is a homosexual and therefore ineligible to marry in the state of Florida.
I would like to invite any experts or psychologists to provide us with some data and research to quantify the negative effects that occur when an individual has no obligation to be "responsible for oneself." As an amateur observer, I have seen how children of very wealthy people sometimes wind up with no purpose in life and develop problems with drugs and the law. While this is not universal, and certainly there are many children of wealthy folks who are very productive members of society, there is a large enough group of those who run into personal problems to make mention of this phenomenon. Additionally, what happens to a person when he or she is given a permanent income stream and have no incentive to care for themselves? I have Googled the concept of "entitlement syndrome", but would invite an expert in human behavior to provide us with more information as to the often debilitating effect of not having to take responsibility for oneself.
The purpose of this request is to challenge the notion that permanent alimony is necessary. While there will always be exceptions to every rule and there are some situations that will require permanent alimony, they should be rare and based on extenuating circumstances. While the Florida Bar is asserting that without permanent alimony, our society will virtually fall apart, I beg to differ and state that permanent alimony is unhealthy to able-bodied recipients. Durational alimony should be the default, if any alimony is necessary at all.
Additionally, a case was brought to my attention where the permanent alimony recipient declared herself homosexual and therefore the alimony paying former spouse has no way to terminate the alimony unless a the alimony recipient dies. Please take a moment to give this serious thought. Most of us hope their former spouse will remarry and the alimony will be automatically terminated. What happens when the former spouse is not able to remarry? This is not a debate about whether homosexual marriage should be allowed or not. The law is what it is and everyone has his or her own opinion on this issue, but that is not the topic of our discussion. The existing laws in our state prohibit gay people from marrying. The only "out" therefore is death of the alimony recipient. What a profoundly hopeless way to have to live. And, if you are a the second spouse to that alimony payer, that alimony award can, of course, be increased due to the payer's increased ability to pay.
Please continue to send emails to secondwivesclubfl@gmail.com. As soon as our blog is up and running, I will invite all volunteers to join the discussion and brainstorm our next moves.
Keep the faith and keep up the hard word. We will prevail.

Contributions Needed $$$
FAR does not charge an annual fee or a membership fee of any kind. Instead, we depend on the donations and contributions of our membership. While we are mostly volunteers that are taking personal time away from our professions, businesses, and jobs to dedicate to this cause, we also have real expenses like our Lobbyist to make certain our voices are heard by the Legislators and Senators and to enable effective political strategies to occur; a media consultant who helps with press releases, tv interviews, and media events; advertising expenses for flyers, cards, and possible bill boards as well as other administrative expenses such as website hosting.
This will be Temporary Support to help End
Your Permanent Support.
Your Contributions are a Wise Investment in Everyone's Future!
