Greetings!
It's good to have a Target that Feels Good! Meaningful Alimony Reform is a Great Target. Never take your eyes off the goal! It's Alimony Reform...period!
There is no rest for FAR and making alimony reform a reality in Florida! We are working to build an organization that has clout in Tallahassee with our legislators.
We are expanding FAR, to include the Second Wives Club and additional committees. Read below. Your involvement with these committees is essential. If there is an area you are skilled in, please contact FAR. We're looking for the BEST solutions.

Who is FAR ??? (Florida Alimony Reform)
A little history may help. I have been involved in several alimony reform groups over the last few years, and for one reason or another, the groups fizzled out. Last year, several committed individuals got together and decided to build Florida Alimony Reform. To avoid confusion, technically we are Florida Alimony Fairness, Inc., dba Florida Alimony Reform. (Florida Alimony Reform, Inc. was already taken.)
These individuals include myself, Alan Frisher, and four other "core members." There is a physician and 3 business people, including one woman. Some people prefer to work backstage, without getting the "heat" putting your name out there can bring. All decisions are group decisions, and made after getting as much information and discussion as possible. We truly have Honorable Intent and work together well.
Alan Frisher is our spokesperson. His expert knowledge of divorce and finances have been extremely helpful in our negotiations to find reasonable solutions with both the Florida Bar and the Legislators. While Alan is no longer obligated to pay permanent alimony (after 9 years of payments for a 13 yr marriage), due to a mediated settlement he was able to negotiate with his former wife, he still lives with the emotional and financial devastation from paying permanent alimony everyday of his life. It's personal! He's seen what our laws do to families, including his own children. Current laws are anti-family and need to be changed. And just to clarify some misinformation being passed around, Alan is a licensed Financial Advisor with a specialty as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst; he is not an Attorney and (LOL) certainly not an officer of the FL Bar.
I (Chuck Reinertsen) am a full time dentist and current lifetime alimony payer, and am helping update our alimony laws because I see a bigger picture. The current divorce/alimony laws are anti-family and anti-marriage and are damaging our society. They are hurting our workers, rewarding those who don't want to work, and splitting families. When you penalize people for being successful, and reward them for not even trying, it's harmful to society. It's time for Personal Responsibility. There needs to be a reasonable transition to being single and self supporting. Disability is the exception.
The other four core members of FAR bring viewpoints and ideas, but mostly they bring commitment combined with action. Be thankful for them. They work very hard "backstage" to make and develop our "systems."
We are developing a:
Legislative Task Force Committee,
An Education Committee,
The Second Wives Club,
An Advertising Committee,
An Events Committee,
A Fundraising Committee,
And we now have a Group of Attorneys (some who pay permanent alimony) who are Pro-Alimony Reform and are helping our cause.
Each of the new Committees will have a Committee Leader.
Please contact the Committee Leader to be involved with that committee. We will post their names as we grow the committees.
In the meantime, email FAR and we will put you in touch with the right people.
Thanks!

What are FAR's Goals?
"To Promote Respect, Independence and Equity for the Parties to Divorce" Mission Statement
WHAT WE BELIEVE REGARDING ALIMONY REFORM
To achieve a constitutionally acceptable reform of alimony laws, Florida Alimony Reform believes that the process of dissolution is placing undue burdens on Floridians who simply wish to change their fundamental constitutional right of association and exercise their fundamental constitutional right of privacy by altering their marital status when they dissolve their marriage. Accordingly:
- Floridians must be able to end their marriage with a well defined goal of minimal intrusion by the state and
that the intrusion has a well defined and reasonable time limit. - Alimony statutes must be reformed to be duration limited so that they are in accordance with other statute mandated entitlements such as child support, welfare, and unemployment compensation.
- There will be a rubuttable presumption that the standard of living after a divorce will be lower than what was had during the marriage to ensure both parties receive equal protection under the law.
- That an equitable division of assets occur with a propensity to achieve as close to a 50/50 distribution of all marital assets and liabilities as possible, apart from any transitional alimony award, unless exceptional circumstances occur.
- Alimony must not be calculated or used to supplement a child support order.
- Unbridled judicial discretion must be removed from alimony statutes.
- The judiciary is constitutional mandated to protect citizens from the legislative and executive branches
of government. Therefore, the adversarial aspect of alimony must be removed to eliminate the profit motive. - Citizens seeking to dissolve their marriage are not victims of each other.
The best outcome for the greatest number of people will ultimately determine the quality of life and evolution of our society. Current alimony law does not take into consideration the effects on society.

| Second Wives Club Beginning!
We put the word out it was time to being the Second Wives Club, and with one contact, it begain. Debbie will be the Committee Leader and is organizing the FAR SWC (Second Wives Club). As everyone reading this knows, alimony affects many more people than just the payor.
Women who want to marry don't because their income can be used to recalculate alimony to the ex-wife. Women who are married to alimony payers see the injustice of current laws. This is a place for Second Wives and those wishing to be Second Partners to get involved.
Please click here to contact Debbie and get the Second Wives Club growing as quickly as possible!

Advertising Committee: Billboards
One of our members brought this great idea to us. What if we had an "Adopt a Billboard" program throughout the state? Many times the local residents know the best places for Billboards in their communities.
We are currently getting prices from state billboard comopanies. They range from $5-9,000/4 week period in downtown Orlando on I-4, to $1,000 per month on lesser traveled roads.
There are local companies that may do it for less. It costs $500 - $800 for the vinyl printing. If you want to contribute for a particular billboard, please let us know.
If this is an area you would like to be involved with, please click here to contact Randy and Sharon to get involved. Let's get the information and get started! All ads must be FAR approved. We must be careful of our message. If you have ideas, let us know. Thanks! |
Attorneys Wanted
As we see the comments on many Family Attorney Websites and blogs, it's obvious that many Family Law Attorneys are unhappy with current laws and know that reform is necessary. (Yes, there ARE ethical, caring, reasonable family law attorneys)
Corporate, criminal, real estate, and estate planning attorneys are being hit with these same alimony laws. Many of them are very upset with current law, and would like to help with meaningful alimony reform. If you are an attorney, or know one who would like to help with the FAR Movement, please contact us.
Thanks! |

TEAMWORK will give us Faster Results! As always, we appreciate your financial contributions. You can see the cost of billboard advertising. We need much more public awareness of Florida's Alimony Laws.
