Greetings!
The Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday scheduled their meeting to discuss SB748 for Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 3:30. The Florida and national media, including USA Today and Anderson Cooper, have shined the light on the vast problems in our antiquated laws, including the shameful case of the 72-year-old bedridden Alzheimer sufferer who is forced to pay alimony until he dies, for a marriage that ended 20 years ago. Media interest grows by the day. We are gaining momentum! Are YOU helping? The only way we are going to change Florida's archaic alimony laws is for YOU to write and visit your legislator! If YOU want our alimony laws to change, YOU must get involved. When we send out Announcements or the weekly Newsletter, they are not intended only to inform you of what's happening. The intent is to help direct you to TAKE ACTION! We, the staff of Florida Alimony Reform, are all doing the same things: writing and visiting our legislators, commenting on articles, recruiting new "members" for the alimony reform movement, and contributing financially. Please join us to help end lifetime alimony and bring our laws up to date. You can get started by Forwarding this email to your friends and family! Let's get the word out! |

| Senate Judiciary Committee has Scheduled Hearing to discuss Alimony Reform Bill.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to meet next Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 3:30 pm. Please click here for any updates.
For those who attended the last Committee Meeting, you realize how these meetings are conducted. For those who will be attending their first Legislative Committee Meeting, this is what happens.
If you want to testify, it is essential to keep your statement to one page--doubled-spaced, about 300 words. It must be to the point, direct, and focused on one or two issues, not on all the problems with current law.
Numbers Matter. The ideal situation would be to have several individuals present well prepared facts in an abreviated fashion. Your personal story, followed by 1 or 2 key points that demand revision of our current laws.
Many alimony payers or their families may request to speak. The challenge is TIME. If you are called on to testify, and you are not properly prepared with a short statement, please "Relinquish your time in Support of the Bill."
This is why it is so important to speak with legislators before the committee meetings, especially if your legislator is on the committee.
And Please Wear Something Red: It unified the Mass Alimony Reform Movement when they testified and we're carrying on this tradition. |
"Man-imony: Should Women Have To Pay Alimony To Their Ex-Husbands?" Aired Tuesday
Anderson Cooper aired the much anticipated Alimony Reform program. For those who saw it, it was a great day for national exposure on this often avoided topic. Their replay of the show is not online yet, but you can see portions by clicking here.
After you have viewed, please comment!!! It's the number and quality of comments that will keep an issue alive with today's media. Enough people have to speak up, then the media and our legislators will listen.

Thank You For Your Response When We Ask For It When we have asked you to respond to a newspaper article, blog, or tv station, you have been fantastic. Your passion for justice is written in your responses. The number of responses shows just how many people are affected by Florida's outdated alimony laws.
There will be many more times we ask for your responses, letters, phone calls, and emails. These are important. Numbers matter to our legislators. Thank You for being a part of the alimony reform movement that will finally update Florida's Alimony Laws.
