In 2008, we launched The Dream Tour, a program designed to inspire young Americans by showing them the rewarding possibilities in their future through math and science.  We have shared that message with more than 42,000 American students in 32 cities nationwide.

Last month, ExxonMobil and I expanded the reach of The Dream Tour to make an international impact by visiting school children in Angola, Nigeria and South Africa.  It was an incredible journey that touched my heart in ways I could have never imagined.  Kids truly are the same.  They all share the inquisitiveness and wonder we tend to lose as adults.  So what a great opportunity it was to share my story globally and encourage students from different walks of life to love math and science.

Through the African Dream Tour, I was also able to meet with African leaders to discuss the importance of STEM education and the opportunities it creates.  Much like in the U.S., Nigeria, Angola and South Africa are making efforts to strengthen their education system with various STEM initiatives.

The impact of The Dream Tour was profound and provided me with as much optimism as I hope I offered to the kids.  I was amazed by the people I encountered at every stop on the trip and will be forever changed by this opportunity.

Education is transformative and a great equalizer.  It is a tool that can literally change the world.
