PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Show time!  If you have never been involved in planning a major show, you are missing out on an amazing journey. It is like making a cake, but starting months ahead of time and gathering ingredients. First you get the contract for the facility, then apply for a liquor permit, find a high quality judge, deciding on the categories. As the time for the show gets closer, images are collected from members for the promotional postcards, ribbons are ordered, musicians are scheduled, and refreshments are arranged. The last few ingredients consist of printing and publicity. The ingredients for the gourmet recipe are NEARLY complete! This is all combined but it won't be complete without the main ingredient -YOU! You are what make the shows happen!

FIBER ARTS

MARCH 14TH

I began working as an artist ten years ago when we lived aboard a sail boat
in the Caribbean. Because I had such a small space in which to work I worked
with beads, but home in Colorado I have a full studio with plenty of space
to explore and expand my horizons. What bliss!
Glenis3
Figurative Art Dolls were my first exploration into the Arts and I still
spend 50% of my time in my studio working on designs and patterns. I
continue to sell my dolls through shows and gallery exhibitions.

Fiber Art was a natural extension of the work I was already doing, and
Fiberstyx became a fun example of what I could do with the myriad of fibers
that I had been collecting. Each piece is one of a kind and they are often
built to order with a client's special space requirements. Each are named
describing the piece and its theme.

I have exhibited and sold my figurative art dolls through the following Glenis1
galleries:
Feminine Mystique Gallery in Tubac, AZ
Wild Holly Gallery in Carefree, AZ
TACtile Art Center in Denver, CO
Various local holiday shows and via my website.

I have experienced continued success with annual shows and year round sales
of Art Dolls and Fiberstyx through:
The White Crane Gallery in Omaha Nebraska. 402-345-1066 The gallery owner
would welcome inquiries.

We were all impressed and amazed!  Great job Heather and thanks for giving us the inspiration to go out and create!

S Frazier1Suzanne Frazier is teaching a Saturday Art Workshop, "Exploring Your Right Brain through Series Drawing", sponsored by the Longmont Artists Guild, at the Boulder Fairgrounds at the Community Building on Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 10 am to Noon.   If you have always wanted to discover that wonderful place in your brain where you create your art, this is the workshop for you!
Using a special technique called "Series Drawing", we will spend a morning creating fast, quick series drawings using oil pastels. This technique is translatable into other media, we are just using oil pastels because they are fast and easy to use.  At the end of the morning, you S Frazier2will have created a series of drawings and, in the process, you will have expanded your creative process and gotten  in touch with your right brain functioning where you create your art.  This process might take you out of your comfort zone, but it will expand your expressiveness in your work.  Join us for a wonderful morning of laughter and expansiveness.  No art experience is necessary but this process is great for working artists to expand your style and expressiveness.
Facilitator: Suzanne Frazier, BFA.
Suzanne has a working studio in Longmont and has participated in the Longmont Studio Tours and the Prospect Artists Open Studios.  She teaches weekly art classes in oil pastel drawing and water-based oil painting.  She also teaches Spiritual Journey art retreats at Highlands Presbyterian Retreat Center (Allenspark, CO), Ghost Ranch (Abiquiu, NM) and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church (Longmont). Her work is in private collections in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan.

Lynn D Floral WrokshopLynn Daignault, a certified teacher of the Kofu School of Ikebana, is offering a workshop in Japanese Flower Design on Saturday, March 3,  from 4-6pm, at the Boulder County Fairgrounds classroom.  Lynn apprenticed with Yamamoto Sensei (master teacher) of the Kofu School for three years near Tokyo, Japan.
You will learn the significance of Japanese flower design, the terms used in Ikebana and the three traditional types of designs used. You will complete the Moribana type (low arrangement) of arrangement and take it home with you.
The workshop will cost $25.00 and will include fresh flowers. You are asked to bring these tools to the workshop:

VOLUNTEER FOR HOMESTEAD

LAG SERVICE PROJECT: HOMESTEAD

Our Guild is looking forward to volunteering time at the Longmont United Hospital facility for the elderly known as the Homestead. This is a lovely setting across the street from the hospital on Tulip where families can bring their elderly family members, who are experiencing different levels of dementia, for day care and recreation. We will be offering one hour a month on the fourth Thursday from 1:30 - 2:30 PM of art projects at the Homestead. These will be very simple projects which will, hopefully, inspire and, at least, entertain these wonderful people.

Joan Rhodes, Kate Demke and Lynn Daignault spent an hour with nine wonderful  people at the Homestead February 23. They instructed these residents at Homestead on how to create landscape collages using torn colored construction papers. Four colors were used and everyone created fantastic landscapes depicting the mountains, trees, brush, flowers, land and water. After the work was completed each person described what they liked best about their work. Everyone had a great time and all we used was paper and glue!

Volunteer your time, and join us.  I know you will gain as much as you give and will come away knowing you have made a difference in someone's life.

Please call Lynn Daignault at 303-833-4645 or email her at [email protected]. Lynn is creating simple projects to make at the Homestead. If anyone else has projects they would like to share, Lynn absolutely would love to hear from you. Thank you so much.
