Unique : Not like anyone else. That is what all of us are.
The members of LAG have special qualities and talents that set them apart. The Longmont Artists' Guild's shows are designed to display everyone's unique talent. Our guild is growing with the addition of new members and we want to encourage all members to show their creations in these events. Our shows are in different locations to accommodate a variety of needs.
Showing your artwork for the first time is a big step for an artist. LAG wants to encourage and help new show participants in making the decision to display their artwork. One of the lessons all artists struggle with is; why didn't my artwork win first? We can't help but see our art as being the best, but remember, the judging is subjective and only the opinion of the judge at that particular show. If you don't get the award you feel you deserved, try, try, again. Regardless of the outcome, showing is a fun experience and a great way to interact with other artists and meet new people.
Whether you are a first-timer or seasoned show participant, we hope you will join us this year with your fantastic art.

HEATHER ROGERS
PAINTED PHOTOS
Heather Lynn Rogers started her journey into the art field in 2005 when she was in college for creative writing and photojournalism. Her love of words earned her the Karl Kopp award for herself inspired play "Channel 15". Her times on the streets motivated this heartwarming story. Since then her plays have been publicly read at the Brooks Center of Art festival in Denver as well as The Aurora Fox Theater and The Bug Theater. Rogers was featured in the national reporter, Daily Times Call and the Left Hand Valley Currier, which she now does photojournalism for.
Rogers continued to write other plays. Her 10 minute play "The Egg Make all the Different" was one of 12 plays chosen by The Dangerous Theater for the Extreme Playwriting Adventure in 2006. Shortly after that her time was consumed by a docudrama called "My Battle for Baby". Rogers did many different things on this project from screenwriting, on screen interviewing, and co-production. Through all this she kept her love of expression through words and photography.
Her poem "I am an Artist" inspired the Sunset Middle School year book for 2010/ 2011 year called "I am..." This poem shared that the students there is an artist in all of us. While inspiring them to always see life as a muse.
Throughout her time of writing she has loved to take pictures of historical sites and write poems about them. Her poem "Six Sisters" about the Colorado sugar beet factories has been read publicly at a local poetry slam. Currently Rogers has focused on her photography where she encompasses her eye for the unusual and retains her love of the natural world. Her joy of life comes through her work with the subjects she picks. Her diversity from scenic to abstract gives he art a wide verity of subjects. The unique style of mixing photography with acrylic is innovative. In the day of computers and the art of digital enhancement camera work it is just not enough, she adds texture and depth to her original works.

Rogers tries to give back to her community and the areas around her by working with students and donating her work to charity. Her photography and art work have been shown in Longmont United Hospital, Burlington Medical Center, Bella Rosa Golf Course Club House, Ute Trail Green House, Sunset Middle School, and The Armory. Rogers was the featured artist at the July 2011 Longmont Art Walk and her work was shown at the Sun Rose Café.

Lynn Daignault, a certified teacher of the Kofu School of Ikebana, is offering a workshop in Japanese Flower Design on Saturday, March 3, from 4-6pm, at the Boulder County Fairgrounds classroom. Lynn apprenticed with Yamamoto Sensei (master teacher) of the Kofu School for three years near Tokyo, Japan.
You will learn the significance of Japanese flower design, the terms used in Ikebana and the three traditional types of designs used. You will complete the Moribana type (low arrangement) of arrangement and take it home with you.
The workshop will cost $25.00 and will include fresh flowers. You are asked to bring these tools to the workshop:
1. Flower scissors or shears (not garden shears). Japanese flower scissors can be purchased at McGuckens garden department in Boulder, but ordinary flower shears will do.
2. A "frog" or kenzan to hold flowers. This tool has a flat surface with spikes sticking up, usually rectangular or round, and, it is metal. A 3 inch one or larger is best because it will be more stable. These can also be found at McGuckens in the garden department.
2. A low and elongated flower container. McGuckens also carries these containers.

If anyone has art supplies they would like to donate; such as interesting papers to use for collage, crayons, colored pencils, they would greatly be appreciated. If you are interested in taking part in this wonderful opportunity please send Lynn Daignault your name; day and time you would like to see us working there; and, any ideas you have for art projects. We will look at all of the suggestions and let you know what is best for everyone. Thank you so much for your generous support.
