The summer is coming to an end and I hope everyone had a creative one.
We have already arranged a wonderful line up of shows and demonstrations. So the upcoming season will be a busy one.
This year is our turn for the LAG/BAA Show, which will take a lot of work and planning by our guild. So please let me know any suggestions or ideas you might have for the show. We start putting the show together in September.
Well, I am headed for Estes Park as a member of the Colorado Senior Charity Rodeo Association. We will be putting on two days of rodeo to raise funds for the local charities. I will see you September 14th!

SEPTEMBER ARTIST DEMONSTRATION

HEATHER COEN:
I've been painting since I was a child. I apprenticed to two master artists while living in California and have taken many workshops and classes from artists all over the United States. Many layers of oil or pastel go into my work, creating a third dimension in each original piece. The subject matter changes and varies from a study of a single flower to the wide open expanses of the Alaskan wilderness. I am most renowned for my mastery of water images. My initial training started by taking lessons in California with two master artists followed by palette knife workshops from Don Foster. I believe an artist can improve and grow no matter how experienced or talented they are. I attend one workshop from a master artist every year. I have been juried into 35 national and inter-national shows in the last 18 months and took Paint America's Judge's Award for "Top Mini 50" in 2009. In 2010, besides being juried into many venues, I was also included in the prestigious Salon International's Exhibition; and I was invited to the Wyoming Arts Council Plein-Air Event hosted by Southwest Art. I was a featured artist in the July 2010 edition of "American Art Collector." I was also interviewed by the same magazine for the Plein-Air Artists of Colorado, Saks Gallery 2010 show ( June 25th through July 1oth) in Denver. In March 2011, the re-launch of "Plein Air" magazine includes an article written by me and an editorial on my artwork. I have been invited to Plein Air Rockies and Prairies to Peaks Wyoming for the 2011 "Plein Air" invitationals. I currently live in Loveland, Colorado with my beloved basset hounds, Mallory and Lily Belle, and my husband, Richard. I believe I am, "Creating a legacy, one original at a time." Recently I have been doing the plein air "Prairies to Peaks." I am hoping one of three paintings I submitted will win something special:
"The Road Home" Oil 12 by 24
"Basset Barns" Oil 8 by 10
"Sun on the Open J" Pastel 11 by 14 I am in the Plein Air Rockies in Estes Park next week. That show starts on 8/27 and runs through 10/2. For more information, call the Cultural Arts Council of Estes Park at 970-586-9203, E-Mail: info@estesarts.com. Recent accomplishments include elevation to "Signature Circle" status for Paint America. Inclusion in the "Best of Oils" book coming out this winter and First Place for the AANC "Celebration of Color" for the following painting:
I also took second for the BAA-LAG show in June for "Tern to Life."

CALL FOR ARTISTS:

Front Range Orthopedics is asking for art work to be shown in their offices by local artists. The location/venue is great. The hanging area is not directly in the waiting room for patients, but this room looks into a larger split hallway and large pieces will show fantastically well there.
Requirements by Front Range Orthopedics are:
Artwork to be hung and taken down will be on a specific date and delivery time is 5:00 pm. (This must be adhered to as the Front Range Orthopedics does not want their office procedures disturbed during busy hours.)
No artwork to be smaller by a 16 x 20" canvass
Artwork may be 24 x 36 and larger. 5 ft canvasses would work well. Anything larger may tax the strength of the walls.
All artwork must be of Colorado landscapes, florals, animals
No abstracts. No nudes.
Mediums of oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, photography artwork accepted
A business card should be placed on the front of the artwork but with no prices
Interested buyers will contact the artist direct
If a painting/photography is sold, no commission is taken by FRO or the association or the coordinator.
Artwork will be hung for a 3 month period
Scheduling would require 4 to 5 artists for each 3 month period and include a mixture of mediums. It would require 4 to 5 artworks per artist. Diane Wood will be the coordinator of this venue. Since we will be dealing with 3 to 4 different associations, interested artists must contact Diane for scheduling.
Location of Front Range Orthopedics is:
Longmont Medical Campus
1551 Professional Lane, Suite #200 Longmont, Colorado 80501 Office: (303) 772-1600
This medical campus is at the junction of Hwy 287 (Main St.) and Pike Rd.
The first show will be hung July 11. I have drawn from BAA, LAG and LAA artists that I knew had Colorado themes and were of a larger size (not smaller than 16 x 20).

Second annual Louisville Arts Fest scheduled for Labor Day Weekend By Kimberli Turner Colorado Hometown Weekly
Front Street in downtown Louisville will be a flurry of arts of all kinds on Saturday, Sept. 3 -- from painting, pottery and sculpture to voice, poetry and dance.
The second annual Louisville Arts Fest, held over the Labor Day weekend, is themed "Unleash the Artist in You," and more than 30 local artists will set up shop around the Steinbaugh Pavilion on Front Street and offer demonstrations in addition to selling their artwork.
"It's going to be a really fun time for artists," said Emilie Parker, a member of the Louisville ArtsHub, a group of artists and art-related business owners in downtown Louisville who promote the city's growing arts culture. It's free for artists to demo, and people who come to participate and let their creative juices flow will pay a small fee for materials, Parker said.
From 3-8 p.m., demonstrations at booths in two large tents near the pavilion and in the parking lot north of the library will include pottery, weaving, metalsmithing, paper and bronze sculpture, mosaics, wood-carving, acrylics and more.
While those activities take place outside, micro-workshops will be held inside the Louisville Public Library's first-floor conference room with poetry readings and also musical instrument and vocal lessons provided by Dana V music.
A caricaturist and sidewalk chalk artists will also be on hand, as well as instructors leading Zumba lessons. A large canvas will be made available for festivalgoers to leave their own piece of art as part of a larger project.
"It's a community canvas where everyone can help create a large picture," said Louisville's ArtUnderground director Lori Jones.
Jones, who helped plan the Louisville Arts Fest with Parker and Lee Turmala, said last year's canvas -- a painting of downtown Louisville created by about 30 people -- will be on display.
Steinbaugh Pavilion will be reserved for the day's entertainment featuring Louisville Idol, a play on the televised singing competition "American Idol." Performers 16 and older who are interested in competing are encouraged to register by calling Dana V music at 770-240-1658. The first-place winner will receive $100, second place will take home $50 and third place will get a gift certificate from a Louisville business.
Louisville Idol will start at 3 p.m. and will be mixed in between performances by the FlatIrons Jazz ensemble. Food and drink vendors will be on hand during the festival.
Turmala said the Arts Fest is unique because it's not only artists showing off what they do but a chance for people to learn from local artists by getting involved with the various art forms offered.
"We can expose so many artists and try our hand at many different things," Turmala said.
As the evening winds down, Louisville nonprofit Old Town Cinema will show local filmmakers' short films as well as classic cinema from 8 to 10 p.m. at Bittersweet Café and Confections' outdoor theater, a backyard area behind the shop at 820 Main St.
