The Longmont Artists' Guild is grateful to the Great Frame Up for many years of support and friendship.
The Great Frame Up Gallary shows our art each year and the owner, Dave Iannazzo, generously permits us to use the showroom space after hours for our monthly meetings and demonstrations.
Guild artists have also held one-man shows in this attractive gallary.

Hello LAG Members:
It's been an amazing year!!
Growth: The guild is growing in a number of areas. Our membership has added many new people over the last year and more people are coming to our shows and demonstrations. The demonstrations have been a big factor in attracting larger audiences. They come to see art in all mediums. Our art shows are setting new records for entries and sales. Thank you everyone for making this happen!
Quality: The artwork in our shows has been the highest quality ever. The judges have noticed and commented as well as patrons at the shows. Our members are striving to improve their art with classes, networking, and exchanging ideas with other artists.
We'll be taking the summer to make time for vacations, family, and creating art for the coming art show season. Our next meeting will be September 14th. So have a fun and safe summer and we'll see you when the aspens begin to turn.
Have a fabulous summer!

FEATURED LAG MEMBERS
|
We are featuring two LAG members each month who have volunteered their time and energy to LAG, helping in some way with our guild's events, shows and various goals. Here are the nominated members for June 2011:

BECKY EVERITT:
Nominated by Susan Steven: Becky has been a priceless treasure to our LAG. She has been a member since 1978, one of our oldest (not age) members of our guild. She is always present at the meetings, art shows, board meetings, helping out in every way possible. She has offered numerous, excellent workshops, some being free to our members. Becky has been the Vice President of the LAG board for the last two years, and we recently, regretfully, accepted her resignation to end her term. Thank you Becky for all your service and friendship.
Words from Joan Rhodes/LAG president:
If you are looking for someone that is kind and generous, Becky Everitt is the one. She donates her time and resources to a number of charitable organizations such as the Seakr Foundation. She has collected paper and crayons for the kids in Haiti. Becky and her husband Chuck belong to the Kiwanis, and have taken on the project of making wooden toy trains for needy children. She conducts watercolor painting workshops, charging only enough to cover expenses, thereby making the classes affordable to more people. Becky is a long time member of LAG, serving as vice president she has help improved the guild with her experience. She has spent countless hours in the service of LAG.
About Becky:
Becky was born in Missouri but her family moved to Ft. Collins where she started school and eventually graduated from CSU with A B.A. in Art Education. She realized by the age of 4 that she wanted to be an artist and teacher. She has taught in Arizona, Nebraska and Colorado. She met her husband Chuck at CSU, they have 3 grown sons, and 2 grandsons. The family also spent some time ranching in S. Dakota and Idaho. They moved back to Longmont in 1978. Becky joined the Artist Guild and the Longmont Symphony that fall. She nows is a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Longmont Chorale as well but no longer plays in the symphony. Her art includes many mediums: oil, watercolor and pastels. She also dabbled in blown glass. She occasionally gives workshops and classes.
Dave Iannazzo:
Nominated by Joan Rhodes: I would like to nominate Dave Iannazzo as the featured photographer. He helps LAG so much, setting up for our demonstrations, putting on a show, letting us have a Christmas party, and providing us with information for grants. Also, he has great patience with little old ladies.
About Dave:
In 1990 Dave and his wife Pamm, moved from Minnesota to Colorado. With her background in framing, Pamm started working at The Great Frame Up in Boulder, while David worked in the computer business at Kentek. Five years later in 1995, they took the opportunity to buy the Longmont Great Frame Up and with good business sense, they moved the location from the original north Main St. spot (next to the old K-Mart) to the place they are in now, right downtown on Main St. They also added the gallery which then began the relationship between The Great Frame Up and our guild. Five years later, they bought the Boulder Great Frame Up that Pamm is managing while Dave takes care of the Longmont store.
Dave's talents in photography, can be seen at both stores. He has been in numerous shows and is currently working with infra-red photography. Pamm's passion is pastels and oils, which we also enjoy seeing in their galleries.
Dave and Pamm now live in the beautiful mountains, just west of Lyons, with their loyal and energetic dogs whom they take to work with them everyday (we see them at the LAG meetings too). We thank Dave and Pamm, so very much, for all their years of support and friendship to our Longmont Artist Guild.

TIM ELLIS
MAY DEMONSTRATION
Our final guest artist of the season was Tim Ellis who enthralled us with a lecture of his unbelievable Katrina experience and photos. Living in New Orleans with his family and friends was where he was happiest, but everything changed for him on that unforgettable day. He described with his words and photos, what it was like during that time, surviving the devastation, physically and emotionally.
Thank you Tim, for sharing your photographic experience with us.

WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP
MAY 13TH
Becky gave another wonderful watercolor painting workshop this month. This time she offered it FREE and there were several of us that took advantage of that. The workshop was at the Longs Peak Methodist Church on Friday the 13th. This was our LUCKY day because she showed us some great techniques and tricks, such as; how to use the mask to leave white areas, the importance of contrast in artwork, how to mix complementary colors to create realistic shadows and strong browns.
Thank you so much Becky for inspiring us and showing us how to improve our watercolors.

DEBBIE ROCCHI:

Debbie did a beautiful illustration that was published on a seed packet for Botanical Interests.
LAMYA DEEB: She will be participating in the Boulder County Parks and Open Space Paint Out and Plein Air Art Show. The Paint Out is happening June 1-14 and the show opens Aug. 19th, and runs through Sept. 3rd at the Old Firehouse Art Center, Longmont. For more details and to see who else is participating, go to the BCPOS website at this link: http://www.bouldercounty.org/play/pages/pleinairartshow.aspx
DIANE WOOD: She was the featured artist at Lincoln Gallery in Loveland for the month of May. Rhythm on the River is July 9, 2011. Stop by the Art Zone Tent and visit our talented artists. We will have a canvass on site for the public to paint on. The theme is Rhythm on the River and adults and children can paint what significance ROTR is to them. The paintings will be shown at various locations in Longmont. Come visit with us and have some fun.
Diane has a piece juried into the Gilpin Art Show in Central City. The
reception is June 4 from 5 pm - 7 pm. This is an interesting building
with a great deal of history. the art gallery is located directly
across from the Teller Opera House.
Ron Gallegos-abstract artist and LAG member announces the formation of Conejos Fine Art Gallery at 424 Kimbark Street Longmont. This location serves as his and Diane Goldenstien Law Office and Ron's consulting firm. We've hung any number of our own work in it for the last year. I get comments all the time that I should turn it into a small gallery featuring a single or limited number of artists. I intend to have a formal opening in early summer. I plan on have 12 shows with one an annual New Mexico Christmas Show with Southwestern Hispanic Art and one being devoted to Diane's and my work. That leaves 10 regular shows having a single artist or a theme with limited numbers.
Rose Lynch: She continues to exhibit a few works at Osmosis Gallery in Niwot. She will also have several pieces at the Confetti show at the Old Firehouse...currently running. She will also be showing at the Lincoln Gallery in June and the LAG/BAA Members Show at the Boulder Fairgrounds.
Heather Coen: Heather has a lot to share with us, including this very impressive article she wrote for "Plein Air" magazine, her very first national published article. Congratulations Heather!!! She has been invited to Plein Air of the Rockies which starts on August 13th and they paint in the Estes Park area through the 25th. The show is from 8/27 through 10/2. Here is the website and the information about this big event: http://www.estesarts.com/PleinAir/index.asp Then she is off to "Prairies to Peaks" Plein Air hosted by Southwest Art and Deselms Gallery in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Here is the information and website for this event: http://artsalliancecheyenne.com/uncategorized/%e2%80%9cprairies-to-peaks-a-plein-air-in-wyoming%e2%80%9d-call-for-entries/ Painting period, August 1st to 13th, 2011, Exhibition through September 30th, 2011 She also got into the Richeson Top "75" with two of her paintings and will have 6 pieces included in their "Still Life and Abstract /2011" Publication. She was invited to submit her paintings for consideration by Senator Michael Bennet's office in Washington, D.C. Here are a couple of her painting from the Taos Plein Air Event hosted by Plein Air Artists of Colorado. She believes they are two of her best pastels. Heather H. "HELLO LAG MEMBERS, Just a reminder that the Prospectus for the 2011 BAA/LAG Art Show is now on line. Please download a copy and submit your application by May 4, 2011 5PM. Your application must be postmarked by this date. LAG Members who are entering the 2011 BAA/LAG Art Show can now work off their two hour work commitment by signing up to solicit venues for donations (cash preferably) or soliciting food vendors for our reception. As you are aware when holding an event at a Boulder County facility, their rules state that any food being brought to the event and offered to the public, must be from a restaurant or caterer, or brought from grocery stores (fully protected before purchase). (Such as salad trays which have a plastic cover, sushi with plastic cover, meat tray with plastic cover, etc. This is the sort of thing that needs no handling other than to take the cover off and serve.) 1. A $25 donation will allow the contributor to have their name/business name on the program and vendor's thank you poster. Being a non-profit 501(c)3 our tax number allows them to use apply this donation as a tax write-off to a non-profit association. If a food vendor is donating food for the reception, ask that they give you the estimate in writing. We would give them our tax number. To further entice them to donate, they may give us brochures advertising their business which could be placed on the table right next to the donated food. We are trying to keep our costs at a reasonable level while affording our members this opportunity to show and sell their art. 2. If interested in signing up for this work commitment, please contact either Diane Wood (303)678-7456 email address diane@woodcolorado.com, or contact Diana Tripp (303) 442-3901 email address dianatripp@gmail.com 3. We will need 3 volunteers to pick up, put up and take down signage for the 2011 Art Show. Please call and or email Diane Wood or Diana Trip. This volunteer position will count toward your working hours commitment for the show. This annual show features some of the best artists in Boulder County. Together we can display our talent and further make the community aware of our talented artists. Thanks for contributing to the success of our show. Diane Wood

CALL FOR ARTISTS:

Call for Artists interested in Participating in an Abstract/non-objective Art Show
Mr. Ron Gallegos & the Conejos Fine Art Gallery announced they are soliciting for artists who might be interested in participating in an abstract/non-objective art show to be held in July. Please respond by e-mail with expression of interest and attach a jpeg of your sample work. The initial plan is to limit each artist to three works with a fee of $35. Planned opening is for the last week in July.
Call for Artists Interested in Forming an Alternative Studio Tour
I have had discussions with a number of you recently regarding LCA's exclusive and limited studio tour. Because they grandfather in artists who have been previously admitted, there is limited or no room for new artists. Many have suggested we form our own more democratic and community based studio tour. Please respond to me if you are interested. I believe anyone who wants to should be in the tour. This removes the very subjective and exclusive form the existing tour-LCA suffers from. If you are interested in forming an alternative Studio Tour please email me. I am starting a working committee and believe there is more than enough time to get an initial effort out this year.
Ron Gallegos rongallegos@yahoo.com 720 427-3535
We are accepting applications for the July 15, and September 16 events. The deadline for the July 15 event is June 1. The deadline for the September 16 event or Art Through the Lens Photo Contest is August 1. Please note we will be accepting applications in all mediums for the September event in addition to entries for the photo contest.
To apply please visit our website at www.artwalklongmont.org and click on the call for entries link.
