The Great Frame Up

The Longmont Artists' Guild is grateful to the Great Frame Up for many years of support and friendship.

The Great Frame Up Gallary shows our art each year and the owner, Dave Iannazzo, generously permits us to use the showroom space after hours for our monthly meetings and demonstrations.

Guild artists have also held one-man shows in this attractive gallary.

The cold winter weather didn't keep our hearty members from attending the wonderful Russ Tanner demo. We had a large turnout for the evening demonstration.  If you have any ideas you would like to share on subjects for demonstrations and workshops, just send us an e-mail.

A new area we will be exploring this year is grants.  Since we now have the 501(c3), we can apply for grants to help fund upcoming events.  Also, if you want to make a tax deductible donation to the guild, we can provide you with the tax ID number to file your claim.

Hope you all are ready for the fantastic show coming up in February at The Great Frame Up.

Cindy Young: shares this with us:

Every once and awhile I stumble upon a book that is as beautiful as it is inspiring. Check to see if your library has a copy of How I Paint: Secrets of a Sunday Painter, by Thomas Buechner; published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc. 2000. Mr. Buechner, former director of the Brooklyn Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass, is also an accomplished artist and instructor. The book offers tips for both the amateur and the experienced painter. It is filled with portraits, landscapes and still life. My favorite tip is one he refers to as the lesson of Rembrandts nose, in which he reveals that: all colors look cool over dark, and all colors look warm over light. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Sally Fulton: I am offering ongoing oil, pastel and acrylic painting classes for all levels of painters on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons from 2-5:00 at my studio at 735 Bowen Street, Longmont.  The cost is $25 a class.  For more information, go to my website at www.zhibit.org/sallylfultonartist

And my paintings can be seen at the Muse Gallery in Longmont and the Lincoln Gallery in Loveland.

Judy Sprague:  The art of Judy Sprague has been juried into the Western Spirit National Art Show to be held in Cheyenne, WY  March 5 - April 17

Dot Pecina:  NO FEAR OIL PAINTING classes, by Dot Pecina, for beginning and intermediate students. Classes are held on Monday mornings from 9 am - 11 am and Wednesday afternoons, 1 pm - 4 pm.  Each class runs for a month throughout the year and the cost is $49.00 for each month's session.  Enjoy painting in a relaxed atmosphere as you create your work of art.   Call Dot for additional information. 303-682-8957 or e-mail at [email protected]

Diana Tripp: Diana has her work at 730 South Grill in Denver - a collection of fruit and flowers. UCAR Library in Boulder - landscapes

One World Cafe in Evergreen, CO - my newest, "A Bit Outside the Box"  work. The Great Frame Up in Boulder - a little bit of everything.

Linda Wells LAG member from Loveland, has had four paintings juried into the national Western Spirit Art Show and Sale opening March 5 at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum in Cheyenne, Wyoming.   She has also been invited to provide the top prize for the Rio Grande Kennel Club dog show in May in her hometown of Albuquerque, NM in the form of a commissioned portrait of the Best in Show dog.  Also, she just completed a commission of three small paintings of birds.  Linda's website is:  www.lindawellsart.com

Suzanne Frazier: is teaching several interesting workshops. A Contemplative Art Workshop on Color Theory on Saturday, February 26 from 10 am to 4 pm and a Inner Landscape Art Workshop on Saturday, March 19, from 10 am to 4 pm. In 2011, Suzanne is teaching contemplative art retreats at Ghost Ranch, Mandala Center, Loretto Spirituality Center and Abbey of St. Walburga. Suzanne is also participating in the Pecha-Kucha Night called "Longmont CO #1"  at the Old Firehouse Gallery, 667 Fourth Avenue, Longmont, CO 80501 on Friday, February 11 at 7 pm.  She will be presenting a six minute slide presentation on "Contemplative Art" as part of this world-wide event in 378 cities around the globe.   She will also be displaying three paintings at the Rabid Rabbits Galeria, 530 Kimbark Street, Longmont, as part of the February Show called "Matters of Heart", opening with a Cupcake and Champagne Reception on Sunday, January 30.  The show runs until March 13, 2011.  For more information, contact:[email protected] 303-502-0751 Frazier:

PLEIN AIR ART EXHIBIT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 27, 2011

Contact: Karen Imbierowicz, 303-678-6268Plein Air Artist

Artists sought to participate in

Plein Air Art Exhibit

Boulder County, Colo. - The Boulder County Parks and Open Space Foundation is seeking artists to participate in the Plein Air Art Exhibit featuring county open spaces.

Artists will join in a two-week "paint-out" from June 1-14, during which they will have access to Boulder County Parks and Open Space agricultural, prairie, forested, and aquatic open space areas to produce artwork for the exhibit. Additionally, artists will be allowed in certain restricted open space areas during this time.

Interested artists are asked to submit application materials - including an entry form, $20 entry fee and three digital images of outdoor art - by March 30. Artists must be Boulder County residents.

Complete application information and details are on the Plein Air Art Show page of the Boulder County website.

The exhibit benefits the Parks and Open Space Foundation, a not-for-profit fundraising partner of Boulder County Parks and Open Space.

"Living in such an athletic and health focused community, we are all very familiar with our recreational users of open space," said Karen Imbierowicz, Partnership Coordinator for Boulder County Parks and Open Space. "We are less familiar with the artist community who quietly set up their easels on the side of the trail and capture the aesthetic beauty of the place we call home.

"Through this process we hope to encourage the relationship between the artist community and our local public lands," Imbierowicz said.

"Plein air" is defined as the act of painting outdoors. The focus of the artwork is usually landscapes and the artwork is usually created in one block of time in the field, so the immediacy of the moment is captured.

Special Announcement:

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.  Seakr Foundation was founded to help military families who have lost a partner in Afghanistan or Iraq.  Currently this program supports ten families and theirflag children.  Often traumatized by their loss, Seakr Foundation hopes to support them in their time of greatest need.  The monthly stipend allows a parent to go to college or stay home with younger children.  The Foundation also does special things for the children like throw birthday parties and send stockings at Christmas.  99% of all funding and donations are passed on to the families as Seakr Foundation is run by a group of volunteers.

Last year, LAG in conjunction with Heather Coen provided a number of paintings for the auction and sale.  The event occurred on October 8th, 2010 and we raised $22,000 for this cause.  The children were especially surprised to have Darth Vader and a number of storm troopers attend the event.  The speakers talked about what it meant to have a sacrifice of this magnitude and how, we as a community, need to support those who are left behind.  This year we hope to have an even bigger and better event in downtown Denver.

With the support of LAG we want to put even higher quality art into the auction and have a few artists present to talk about their work.  Here is how we can help them:

1.  Start working on a piece to be donated for the October fundraiser.  All items are tax deductible but need to be in Heather Coen's possession by September 1, 2011.

2.  Donate your time and energy to help set-up and run this event.

3.  Help Heather in the weeks before the event.

4.  Buy tickets to the fundraiser and get your friends to buy tickets too.  Last year the tickets were $190 a piece with all profit going to the families and the rest covering the venue, food and decor.  The event should occur in the first two weeks of October in downtown Denver at a major hotel.

5.  Pass the word along to anyone you know about this cause and donate on-line.

You can find out more about Seakr Foundation at

http://www.seakr.com/about/foundation.html

You can also call Ray Anderson or Melissa Coen for more information about the event and your participation, their numbers are listed at the bottom of the webpage.  You can also contact Heather Coen at (970)669-6123 or (970)361-4268 or email at
