RESEARCH SUMMARY - APPLICATION OF HOGAN ASSESSMENTS

The Suite Spot - High Achieving Women and the Choice between Corporate or Entrepreneurial Career

We introduce a new report, designed especially for women, based on original research by business psychologist Dr. Wendy Alfus-Rothman and Dr. Paul Connolly.   We defined corporate high achievers as managing a P&L of $250 million or more and entrepreneurial high achievers as those building a business to at least $5 million in revenue. A sample of 70 women fitting into one profile or the other took the Hogan Personality Inventory, The Hogan Development Survey, and the Motives Values and Preferences Inventory.

The two groups of high achievers have quite a bit in common, with 7 scales making the difference: Ambition and Drive, Risk Tolerance, Sociability, Creativity, Flexibility, Industry Savvy and Aesthetic Focus.

There were 5 areas that differentiated suitability for an Entrepreneurial or Corporate track. Strengths associated with comfort in the C-Suite were composure, collaboration, following corporate rules, and being proactive. Strengths associated with the Entrepreneurial direction included independence, expressiveness, innovative but practical, and following personal rules.

The Suite Spot report is designed to help aspiring high-achieving women examine whether they are more suited to the Entrepreneurial or Corporate Suite.  For more information click here

BOOKS AND MORE BOOKS

March is a big month at Performance Programs, as two new books with PPI Assessments hit the bookstores.

Companion Book to the Hogan Development Survey -  "The Blame Game"

About the book

When it comes to the social dynamics of credit and blame, perceptions matter. Leaders have different styles of assigning credit and blame, and different styles can be perceived as more or less effective and motivational in different situations, roles, and organizations.  This book builds on results from the Hogan Development Survey.

Ben and Robert Hogan have a Harvard Business Review Article  summarizing some of the key points from the book, available free by clicking the above link.  A podcast is also available click here

We worked with Ben and Bob to develop an assessment to help people see how they are likely to blame and be blamed at work, and what the implications are for personal performance.

The book contains many tools and self assessments to help get a new venture going.  We worked with John and his research team to create an assessment to help aspiring entrepreneurs identify personal characteristics that can be strengths or challenges.
