NCCCR Calendar & Announcements
Upcoming Schedule of Events
March 4-10, 2012

|
Dear NCCCR members, The Reuter Center has been quiet without the buzz of classes and registration, but we have been busy doing data entry and processing payments for our Spring 2012 term and already hard at work on the Summer 2012 catalog. The College for Seniors Curriculum Subcommittee has done an exemplary job of collecting intriguing, challenging, and entertaining courses. We are grateful for the ways that this group of people enriches our community. The UNC Asheville campus was buzzing this week, with the Southern Conference and Big South Basketball Tournaments bringing an even higher volume of traffic and visitors to campus. Congratulations to the UNC Asheville Bulldogs men's basketball team for winning their regular season and conference tournaments, making them the first men's team that has a guaranteed spot in the NCAA tournament. If March Madness is here, can spring be far behind? The campus will be quiet again this week while students go on Spring Break. Have a wonderful week, and thank you for being part of the Center for Creative Retirement. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS!
| | Make A Splash In Watercolor Friday, March 16, 2012, 1-4 pm; Saturday & Sunday, March 17 & 18, 2012, 9 am-4 pm Fee: $175/member; $185/non-member CRN#20002
Learn a new approach to watercolor painting and release your inner muse! You learn to create a "Start" (wet washes of bold color), and you then develop your painting based on imagery that emerges. This is a highly liberating way to work -- the painting informs and inspires you to see the next step. Previous watercolor experience preferred.
Instructor Jane Snyder (Janesnyder57@charter.net) has been practicing and studying art for over 15 years . Jane is a passionate teacher and is delighted to share what she knows. She always finds time to focus on the individual needs of each student. For more information visit Jane's website.
Vanquishing Evil From Your PC Saturday, March 17, 2012, 9 am-12 pm Fee: $30/person CRN#20005 Finding a virus on your PC is traumatic, but you don't have to be a victim--and you DON'T have to lose precious data (or sleep!). This workshop shows how to remove and more importantly, prevent viruses and malware from taking over your computer. Suitable for all users, from beginner to expert.
Instructor Mike Honeycutt (mike@mikehoneycutt.com) has worked in all areas of computing for 30 years. He currently helps people in their homes through his "Geek In A Jeep" business.
For more information or to register for a workshop, please contact Ann Cadle (acadle@unca.edu) in the Reuter Center Office.

What Makes a Great Judge?
|
"What qualities do you believe are the most important in North Carolina's judges?"
Gov. Perdue established the Judicial Nominating Commission to help ensure a more professional, nonpartisan approach to filling judicial vacancies. As part of Executive Order 86 Gov. Perdue asked the Commission to "receive citizen comments and advice regarding the qualities citizens believe are characteristic of an able judiciary."
Here in Asheville, you have an opportunity to lend your voice to this important debate. The commission has scheduled three public hearings to receive public input. Please come prepared to offer advice.
Monday, March 5 in Asheville 2-4 pm UNC Asheville Sherrill Center Mountain View Conference Room (#417) Public hearings will also be held: Tuesday, March 13 in Greenville 2-4 p.m. ECU Murphy Center , Harvey Hall (enter through Maynard Lobby) Thursday, March 22 in Chapel Hill, 2-4 p.m. UNC Center for School Leadership Room 111 For more information, contact the commission.
