Dear NCCCR members,

We appreciate our volunteers at the Center every day of the year.  We could not offer such amazing programs and create such a welcoming community without the work of hundreds of volunteers, who help us with every aspect of daily operations and with setting strategy to allow us to continue to represent the leading edge in programming for older adults. We hope you will join us on Valentine's Day, Tuesday, February 14, from 3:30 to 5:30 in the atrium of the Reuter Center, to celebrate the work of our volunteers.

Volunteers plan the programs and lead the classes for the College for Seniors.  They design and facilitate our Life Transitions programs, Paths to Creative Retirement and Creative Retirement Exploration Weekend.  Volunteers conduct the research that allows us to measure trends and satisfaction in all of our programming and to compare our findings with nationwide findings about life in retirement. Past participants plan our Leadership Asheville Seniors program and prompt us to find new ways to serve the larger community. Volunteers do all the things that make the Center a home away from home, a place to learn and to form friendships.

This week we want formally to thank all of you who make the Center for Creative Retirement such a special place.  All week long we encourage you to put the name of a Center volunteer on the bulletin board on the upper level.  On Valentine's Day, please take the time to come to the Member Appreciation Social. Volunteer extraordinaire Jeanne Smolkin and her team of Party Planners have an amazing spread planned.

Volunteers are the heart of the Center for Creative Retirement.  On behalf of the staff and the Center Steering Council, THANK YOU for all that you contribute to the ongoing success of NCCCR!

Raise Your Hand at NCCCR!

Raise Your Hand

Hundreds of members volunteer their time and talents to make our Center a thriving community. They teach courses, address facility needs, plan events and programs, lead our SIGs, develop our strategic plan, advise on our finances and research and much, much more. Find your niche at the Center, click here  to find out how you can help.

Each month we feature a volunteer opportunity at the Center and highlight the work of our members.

We currently need volunteers on our NCCCR Research Committee to help with surveying members, non-members and participants in programs such as CREW, Paths, and LAS. This committee conducts surveys and reports findings to various other committees and staff. Experience with market research and use of PowerPoint and Excel are required. Contact committee chair Steve Schleifer at 828-505-1476 or ss.ash@hotmail.com for more information.

We'd like to recognize the effort of ALL Center volunteers this week! February 13-17 is Volunteer Appreciation Week at NCCCR. Head to the upstairs lobby to recognize all the volunteers who make the programs you love possible. Look around: CFS instructors, Class Reps, front desk receptionists, Fab Friday hosts and lecturers, Astronomy Club and f/32 organizers, Reuter Center Singers, and literally hundreds of "behind the scenes" volunteers fill the Center with their vibrant energy. THANK YOU to everyone who makes a difference at NCCCR!

If you would like more information on how you can get involved at the Center, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Michelle Rogers at 828-250-3871 or mrogers@unca.edu

Have you misplaced your glasses? Coffee mug?  Jacket?  You name it?  Be sure to check out the many lost items accumulated at the Center this term.  Next week, all the lost items will be on a table in the upper level lobby and will hopefully be reunited with their owners!  Check it out and maybe find that pair of glasses, jacket....
