NCCCR Calendar & Announcements
Upcoming Schedule of Events
December 4, 2011 |
|
|
Dear NCCCR members,
First, thanks to our staff and volunteers who ran registration and to all of our members who came. We began registration a little before 8 am (since we had everyone lined up and all of our registrars in place) and processed over 400 people by 9:15 am. We begin data entry and verification this week and rely on a great group of volunteers to get everything done. Many thanks for Ann Cadle for putting in extra hours to train our volunteers and to get all of our deposits and registrations processed in time.
Remember that we will send out spring schedules by email at about 5 pm on Monday, December 12 and that we will begin add/drop at 8 am on Tuesday, December 13. Once add/drop begins, you may add as many courses as you can schedule without adding cost to your registration fees (unless you are adding courses with a $20 fee). Also, if you find you cannot take a course, please drop officially. There are always people waiting for your seat. For add/drop, you may come to the Center or call, although please realize that we will have to handle many phone calls and messages to handle on the 13th. We will not process any calls about add/drop received before 8 am on the 13th. If you do not receive an email confirming your registration in courses, please give us a call. It may mean that we were not able to schedule any of the courses you requested, and we want to talk to you as soon as possible to let you know. The last day to drop to receive a refund of course fees is Friday, January 6.
While most of our energy this week was focused on creating a smooth registration, we want to thank the volunteers from the NC Center for Creative Retirement who serve as moderators for UNC Asheville's Undergraduate Research presentations: Barbara and Howard Jaslow, Jacque Morgan, Bill Roskind, Fred Meyer, Chuck Rosenblum, and Bill Utz.
Many thanks to Howard Jaslow who connects NCCCR and the undergraduate community by organizing NCCCR members to serve as undergraduate research moderators every term. Howard has also organized a series of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) lectures by both UNC Asheville faculty and NCCCR members that has created another tie to the university and another opportunity for different generations to learn for one another. Watch the newsletter for information about upcoming lectures.
The Center office will be closed from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, December 14 so that the staff and front desk volunteers can celebrate our year together. We will close for the holidays beginning at 5 pm on Friday, December 16 and will re-open at 8 am on Tuesday, January 3. Our last newsletter for this year will appear on Sunday, December 18.
I hope to see you at the Reuter Center Singers performance tomorrow!
