And Beyond...

Dear NCCCR members,

We anticipate a quiet week at the Reuter Center next week. Some staff members are taking off early for a well-deserved break before the Thanksgiving holiday, so please be sure to call ahead if you have a specific need.

We hope that you will have a peaceful Thanksgiving.  Please know that one of the things for which I will give thanks is the opportunity to work with and know so many of the inspiring volunteers and members who fill the NC Center for Creative Retirement with activity and good ideas, who prove that engagement and intellectual curiosity can indeed add life to our years.

Remember that you can find the Winter 2012 catalog online by clicking hereWe have one correction noted so far. The title for Larry Griswold's course, "Sports History Stories from a Master Documentary Maker" is not listed in full on the calendar on page 12.  We also hope that you will take some time to read about our relationship with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes national network on page 9 in the catalog.  I am writing an article for next week's newsletter about the projects that will take place in the coming year with our first $100,000 grant. I welcome any questions or concerns (either call me at 828-251-6188 or e-mail me at cfrank@unca.edu).

 Happy Thanksgiving,

 Catherine Frank

 Executive Director

Winter Term Registration December 1, 2011, 8 am
Doors open at 7:30 am
Needed: Volunteer Videographer

If you could film a 15-20 minute video and help us put it on DVDs, we need you.  Two Mission Hospital volunteers teach knitting to mothers-to-be who are in the Hospital on bed rest awaiting the births of their babies.  Knitting not only helps them pass the time, but we teach them how to make a hat for their newborn.  The problem we have is that many of them leave the ward before they finish the hat.

We thought that if we could make an instructional DVD they could play after they leave, they could finish their project.  We would like to do the filming sometime after mid December or January, but we can be flexible to fit your time table.

If you could help us or if you have questions, please contact Linda Kane linda@80watt.com. Thanks for your consideration.

A Workshop by Fran Ross,

"Writing from the Body"

December 3, 2011

Instructor: Fran Ross

Saturday,Dec. 3, 2011,10A-4P

Fee: $50/person

Experience how poetry and prose can be rooted in the body and the senses as much as in the logical brain. Learn how physical activity can be an entrée to enhancing your creative writing and how the mind and body are interconnected. This is a great opportunity to explore images and ideas from a body-centered perspective.

We will show you how to engage in simple yoga and other meditative movement to find space between head and hand, between the breaths, between the thoughts and heighten the senses. No yoga experience is necessary. More information or to register, click here.
