NCCCR Calendar & Announcements
Upcoming Schedule of Events
September 25-October 1, 2011 |
|
|
Dear NCCCR members,
It was exciting for us to have everyone back together at the Reuter Center for a successful opening week of classes. Our members who volunteered to man the desk and those who walked the lobbies with "Ask Me" signs helped new and seasoned members to feel welcome. Remember to continue to look for members whose name tags sport a wise owl; make a special effort to greet them and make sure that they feel part of our community. Also, please help us and your fellow members by officially dropping classes that you do not plan to attend. See Ann Cadle in the Reuter Center main office for help.
Make plans to join us this Saturday, October 1, for our Healthy Living Day. Members of the Health and Wellness Committee, under the leadership of Sally Mundt, have been working for months to make the day a reality and more important to promote awareness of the importance of health and wellness for our members. We are excited to have the opportunity to hear from our member and College for Seniors instructor, Carl Eisdorfer, addressing predictors of successful aging. The day also offers many opportunities to gather information and inspiration for healthy living and active aging; the Park Ridge Hospitals Wellness on Wheels van will be available beginning at 8:30 am for health screenings and there will be various lectures and demonstrations throughout the day.
Thanks so much to all of our members who volunteer and participate in the effort to craft a creative retirement.
Catherine Frank
Executive Director

TODAY
Sunday ,
Sept. 25,
2:30 pm
at the Reuter Center
Shangri-La
Scenes from the new play Shangri-la will be performed, followed by a talk with the actors, director and playwright who will welcome your questions and comments. Written by Lucia Del Vecchio for Asheville's Magnetic Field, Shangri-la is a mature comedy, featuring six characters who range in age from their 60s to their 80s. Set in a retirement trailer park in Florida, the play shows how all concerned deal with nosy neighbors in the park, gossip, internet dating, shuffleboard tournaments and one giant mixer and dance that just might bring them all together - if everyone can survive the planning of the event. This event is free and open to the public.
