Local Starbucks employees volunteer at the Club

This month is Starbucks corporation's global month of service. And last week, our local Starbucks employees came out to volunteer at the Club as part of their philanthropy week called "A Week of Giing Back to our Future." Each day, different staff members took shifts volunteering at the Club. We appreciate the generous support of our local starbucks and look forward to working with them again soon!

Girls in Action
Teen girls at the Club participate in new program

Teen girls at the Club have been participating in "Girls in Action," a program designed to build character and promote positive attitudes and decision-making. Tarrah Coble, a GSU student and intern here at the Club developed this 10-week program. Each Tuesday, the girls focus on a different topic from self-worth to personal achievement to choosing positive friends and role models. Tarrah hopes that at the end of the program, participants "will understand the power they possess to create a future that positively impacts themselves, their families and their community."

Basketball
BGC traveling girls team plays in tournament

Two of our members, as part of the Boys & Girls Club's traveling girls basketball team, competed in the "Hilton Head Takeover" in Bluffton, SC the weekend of April 8-10. Coming out of pool play as the #2 seed, the kids had stiff competition playing the top teams from the other groups.  The team played hard with blow out wins leading to the championship game.  The championship game was close from beginning to end with our team loosing by two free throws made at the end of the game. This was a warm-up event for the team, and they will be competing in several tournaments for the upcoming weekends.

Kiwanas Terrific Kid of the Week:

Johntrell Wells

Johntrell Wells is a 4th grader from Langston Chapel Elementary. At the Club, he is very active in all areas and has participated in the sports leagues for basketball and football. He is a natural leader and uses this ability to help positively influence the rest of his peers.  He always presents himself as a responsible help to any of the instructors and staff here at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bulloch County. For this and many other reasons, we select him to be the Terrific Kid of the Week.
