Chisholm Trail Parkway is a 27.6-mile toll road that will extend from Tarrant County to Johnson County, starting from Fort Worth's central business district at Interstate 30 and continuing to U.S. 67 in Cleburne. The NTTA began initial construction in April 2010 on Section 2C, one of the northernmost sections of the project, located in Fort Worth near Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. In March 2010, the Texas Department of Transportation began construction of Section 3A, a $117 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. Section 3A consists of local access improvements to Interstate 20/State Highway 183 (Southwest Boulevard) at CTP. Construction of the remaining project sections is underway. The entire CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in spring 2014.

New Hulen Street bridge partially opens to traffic
After nearly 17 months of construction, the North Texas Tollway Authority opened two northbound lanes and one southbound lane of the new Hulen Street bridge in Fort Worth on Sept. 28. Located just east of the existing bridge, the new structure soars over the Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard.
Some lanes will remain closed as construction crews use a portion of the new bridge to stage equipment for demolition of the old bridge. During this time, pedestrian and bicycle traffic across the bridge will be prohibited.
When Chisholm Trail Parkway construction around the new bridge is complete in spring 2013, a total of three traffic lanes in each direction will be open to motorists. At the same time, a 10-foot-wide walkway for pedestrians on the northbound side of the new bridge also will open. |
