Chisholm Trail Parkway is a 27.6-mile toll road that will extend from Tarrant County to Johnson County, starting from Fort Worth's central business district at Interstate 30 and continuing to U.S. 67 in Cleburne. The NTTA began initial construction in April 2010 on Section 2C, one of the northernmost sections of the project, located in Fort Worth near Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. In March 2010, the Texas Department of Transportation began construction of Section 3A, a $117 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. Section 3A consists of local access improvements to Interstate 20/State Highway 183 (Southwest Boulevard) at CTP. Construction of the remaining project sections is underway. The entire CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in spring 2014.

Partial opening of new Hulen bridge set for this weekend

Construction crews working on the new Hulen Street bridge in Fort Worth plan to open part of the new structure this weekend, weather permitting. Located next to and just east of the existing bridge, the new structure soars over the Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. Part of the North Texas Tollway Authority's Chisholm Trail Parkway project, the new bridge is approximately 10 feet taller at its peak than the original structure built in the 1960s.

Two north- and one southbound lanes will be opened. Construction crews then will use a portion of the new bridge to stage equipment for demolition of the old bridge. During demolition, pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be prohibited.

When project construction around the new bridge is complete in spring 2013, a total of three lanes of traffic in each direction will be open to motorists. At the same time, a 10-foot wide walkway for pedestrians on the northbound side of the new bridge also will open.

Work is also progressing on the new CTP bridge being built under the new Hulen Street bridge and above the Davidson Yard.
