The President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension, also known as State Highway 161, will provide a new, approximately 11.5-mile link in the growing loop around Dallas. The corridor consists of the tolled PGBT WE main lanes and the SH 161 frontage roads. Phase 1, which includes the frontage roads from Carrier Parkway to Interstate 20, is complete and open to traffic. Phases 2 and 3 consist of the tolled main lanes between SH 183 and I-30 and are also open to traffic. The final phase of the project, Phase 4, extends from I-30 to I-20 in Grand Prairie and is expected to open to traffic in the fourth quarter of 2012. ________________________________________________________________ |

Construction Update
Crews are making great progress on construction to meet October's opening date for the Western Extension Phase 4 main lanes. Most recently, the steel girder installation for both Interstate 30 and I-20 interchanges has finished. On the I-20 interchange, all bridge decks have been placed on the I-20 direct-connector ramps and the west- and northbound direct connectors are completely done.
Many ongoing tasks continue to advance on both ends of the construction area. Excavation work related to the I-30 direct-connector ramps continues and excavation under the Union Pacific Railroad is wrapping up. When complete, main lane construction activities can continue in these areas.
In addition, bridge deck installation on the I-30 direct-connector ramps continues.
Throughout the corridor, overhead signage erection, electrical work and retaining wall work progresses. |
