The President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension, also known as State Highway 161, will provide a new, approximately 11.5-mile link in the growing loop around Dallas. The corridor consists of the tolled PGBT WE main lanes and the SH 161 frontage roads. Phase 1, which includes the frontage roads from Carrier Parkway to Interstate 20, is complete and open to traffic.  Phases 2 and 3 consist of the tolled main lanes between SH 183 and I-30 and are also open to traffic. The final phase of the project, Phase 4, extends from I-30 to I-20 in Grand Prairie and is expected to open to traffic in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Construction on Track; Main Lanes to Open in October

The North Texas Tollway Authority recently announced that the planned opening of the main lanes of the PGBT Western Extension will occur in October.

Throughout the corridor, wall construction, earthwork, bridge operations on the cross-street bridges and concrete paving continue. Various closures and traffic shifts along I-20, I-30 and the surrounding frontage roads continue as crews perform structural steel and precast beam installation and decking operations. Visit NTTA.org for a list of daily closures.
