The President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension, also known as State Highway 161, will provide a new, approximately 11.5-mile link in the growing loop around Dallas. The corridor consists of the tolled PGBT WE main lanes and the SH 161 frontage roads. Phase 1, which includes the frontage roads from Carrier Parkway to Interstate 20, is complete and open to traffic.  Phases 2 and 3 consist of the tolled main lanes between SH 183 and I-30 and are also open to traffic. The final phase of the project, Phase 4, extends from I-30 to I-20 in Grand Prairie and is expected to open to traffic in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Ongoing Construction

Considerable progress has been made erecting steel and installing concrete beams on both the Interstate 30 and I-20 interchanges. As crews work toward completion of this portion of the work, nightly closures will continue in the project area.

Construction of the westbound I-20 bridge that spans over Robinson Road is nearing completion and is anticipated to open to traffic by mid-May.

At the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in downtown Grand Prairie, grading work is being performed in conjunction with the final track alignment. In addition, crews continue excavation work on both north and south sides of the railroad.

Other ongoing work includes: bridge deck installation on both the I-30 and I-20 interchanges; electrical work and overhead sign structure installation south of UPRR.

Traffic shifts and detours will be implemented as needed to perform these activities. Click here for a list of daily closures.
