Chisholm Trail Parkway is a 27.6-mile toll road that will extend from Tarrant County to Johnson County, starting from Fort Worth's central business district at Interstate 30 and continuing to U.S. 67 in Cleburne. The NTTA began initial construction in April 2010 on Section 2C, one of the northernmost sections of the project, located in Fort Worth near Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. In March 2010, the Texas Department of Transportation began construction of Section 3A, a $117 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. Section 3A consists of local access improvements to Interstate 20/State Highway 183 (Southwest Boulevard) at CTP. Construction of the remaining project sections is underway. The entire CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in mid-2014.

More relief for Hulen Street bridge traffic

Motorists travelling across the Hulen Street bridge may be able to shave time from their daily commute. In an ongoing effort to ease congestion along the bridge, North Texas Tollway Authority crews opened a dedicated right turn lane from northbound Hulen Street to Vickery Boulevard last week. Earlier this year, NTTA staff and the City of Fort Worth expedited work in the area to open an additional northbound lane at the intersection of Hulen Street and Vickery Boulevard to alleviate the existing traffic issues.

National Work Zone Awareness Week: Safety First

April 23-27 marks the 13th annual observance of National Work Zone Awareness Week. The week brings attention to both motorist and worker safety in work zones. Based on 2010 data compiled by the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse, Texas led the pack in the number of reported fatalities in work zones; however, the Texas Department of Transportation has seen a 35 percent decline since 2009.

According to TxDOT:

  • In 2010, more than 12,000 crashes and 100 fatalities occurred in work zones
  • Of the 12,000, more than 3,000 were due to distracted drivers
  • Forty-five percent of work zone fatalities in 2010 were 35 years old or younger and 61 percent were male

Here a few tips to remember when driving through work zones:

  • Safety cones and barrels are placed to protect motorists and workers. Do not drive around or move them.
  • Slow down and obey signs when driving through construction zones.
  • Stay focused and avoid distractions (e.g. texting, phone calls, eating).
  • Patience is a virtue.

Each morning crews working on the southernmost portion
of the CTP gather for safety briefings to serve as a constant
reminder of the importance of safety on the job site for workers

and the traveling public alike. This crew is based in Joshua.

Ongoing traffic impacts

  • Users of the Trinity Trails should expect to see heavy equipment crossing the trails near Hulen Street through the end of April. The trails will remain open during normal operating hours and flagmen will be on hand to direct trail users.

  • The delivery and installation of CTP bridge beams will necessitate periodic closures along Vickery Boulevard. Crews will close Vickery Boulevard between Hulen Street and Micki Lynn Avenue nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The closures are expected to last through April 28.

Vickery Boulevard traffic will be detoured as follows:

  • Eastbbound traffic will be detoured north onto Micki Lynn Avenue, west to Kilpatrick Avenue, north to Eldridge Street, east to Donnelly Avenue, south to Hulen Street and east to Vickery Boulevard.

  • Westbound traffic will be detoured north to Hulen Street, west to Donnelly Avenue, south to Eldridge Street, east to Kilpatrick Avenue, south to Micki Lynn Avenue and west to Vickery Boulevard.
  • Commuters travelling northbound on Hulen Street should expect periodic closures of the right, northbound lane of Hulen Street between Overton Terrace Court and Ranch View Road through early August.
