The President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension, also known as State Highway 161, will provide a new, approximately 11.5-mile link in the growing loop around Dallas. The corridor consists of the tolled PGBT WE main lanes and the SH 161 frontage roads. Phase 1, which includes the frontage roads from Carrier Parkway to Interstate 20, is complete and open to traffic.  Phases 2 and 3 consist of the tolled main lanes between SH 183 and I-30 and are also open to traffic. The final phase of the project, Phase 4, extends from I-30 to I-20 in Grand Prairie and is expected to open to traffic in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Ongoing Construction  

  

In downtown Grand Prairie, the south side of the Jefferson Street bridge recently opened, including access from the bridge to both north- and southbound State Highway 161 frontage roads as work continues on the Western Extension of the President George Bush Turnpike. The entrance to the Bank of America building off of the northbound SH 161 frontage road also reopened. 

 

The north- and southbound frontage roads consist of three lanes; however, the far left lanes in each direction are closed to and from Jefferson Street.

 

Steel and concrete beam erection continues along both the Interstate 30 and I-20 corridors within the project area. Traffic shifts and detours will be implemented as needed to perform these activities. Daily closures are available at NTTA.org.

Traveling to Rangers Ball Park

  

As work continues on the Bush Turnpike Western Extension, lanes and cross streets along the I-30 corridor and SH 161 may be temporarily closed. The construction management team is conscientious of Texas Rangers home games when scheduling major closures; however, some closures may coincide with fans heading to the ballpark.
